Hee hee, I spotted that one the other day and was going to put the link up but then it disappeared off the Ebay page and that`s when I tumbled on the green one. Back to the slightly rusty one though; I cannot believe that the vendor seriously thought he could get 15k for a car that in all probability will snap in 2 when you try to move it. And to say it has "a few bits missing" well...the mind boggles! lol O_O

I suggest putting a copy of John Parnells Miin Cooper retoration guide on your christmas list ,before parting with any serious cash.

I too wish I had a spare £25K but alas no and it does slook good in the photos.

However the incorrect sills would really put me off to be honest.  Even the smallest incorrect detail will knock the value, and thats a pretty major error.  Then theres the door fit, just points to a less than perfect restoration, needs further investigation to see if there are any underlying issues.

If youve got the money take your time and find a genuine car thats perfect for you.

As a thought, dont discount a mk 1 850, lovely drive, all the character and will probably put more of a smile on your face than a cooper.

Might be worth posting the ad on the Mk1 forum.

Good lord!! You mean someone actually bought it??! I tumbled upon it tuesday of this week I think it was and I just couldn`t believe the asking price considering the condition. It was labelled as a "barn find".  :D I know and appreciate that they are as rare as hens teeth but even so.......

But it wasn't a 1071 S (if it was the green one with the rust) it was the paperwork / engine / a collection of parts of a 1071 and the shell of a later MK1 850 that would need another 15 or 20K put into it to turn it into a car, anyone with a knowledge of MK1 S shells would be able to spot it wasn't original (unless restored exceptionally with the details changed).

If someone paid £14K for it good luck to the seller !

If you look at the prices for Cooper 'S's that one is about right in terms of asking price. The 1071 is really rare now.

It is a pity if someone has fitted the wrong sills, although at that age a sill change at some point would have been expected.

It does need the correct boot board and a view of the engine and engine bay would have been nice.

I love the 'period' steering wheel and Lucas fog light on the boot. The radio is real 'period' and is exactly what I had when I bought a new Cooper in 1964.

The number plate is a bit strange and I am surprised that by October 1964 Bedfordshire (it's a Luton plate, despite Marshals in Peterborough not being in Bedfordshire, even then) had not gone to 'B'-suffix plates. I would certainly check that carefully.
