A few more updates to add since the last post.

1. I removed the brake pedal box and welded a new threaded stud into place to accommodate the new offset servo location. I also removed the link bar, the bit that connects the pedal to the servo, so it can be modified. It's currently gone to an engineers so that a thread can be cut to enable a new clevis fork to be fitted. I'll add some pictures to explain when I can.

2. I purchased (eBay) a set of R1 down pipes from a 2004/5 model that look like they can be modified to fit my engine/mini. I went with this year due to them having what appear to be a very compact design so have a better chance of fitting. They are also sectional unlike the 2001 version meaning I can unbolt the 4-into-1 and have it remade. The most important bit for me is the down pipes that attach to the engine head.

Pictures to follow.....

Here are a few pictures of progress being made. Nothing major down apart from ticking jobs off the list.

Brake servo overhaul complete.

Brake pedal rod back from engineer now with thread so I can fine tune the clevis fork position

I remade the bonnet securing brackets with steel support. The first version were just carbon and didn't feel very secure. The white looking items are the carbon covered in masking tape and the black bits are the metal plates painted.

I bonded them together before drilling holes and inserting rivnuts.

Here is a short video of me testing the sequential shifter I've built. I've played around with the solenoid position to get a smoother and more positive actuation. I've also got some stronger springs on order to help return the stick to centre. Oh, and I've been playing around with video editing to try and make some nicer looking YouTube videos.

Note. The link above is also a test. It using bittly (similar to tinyurl) and allows me to track origin of clicks.

Luke.

I will have the choice of manual or electronic. The solenoid is attached to the manual shifter I built. It "floats" when not engergised so I can change gear with the stick manually or press a button on the steering wheel to do it for me :-)

Best of both worlds! That's really awesome and quite impressive. Can't wait to see this in action.

It only became possible after finding a used electronic shift kit on eBay for less than 1/4 of original price.

Proof that the project is going in the right direction

Am I possibly the only person who tracks their project using a project management application? :-)

Also knocked up this engine lifting bar today so I can more easily attach my engine crane. I'm at a stage where I need to lift the engine in and out a few times so I thought I would invest the effort in making something. It will attach to two unused mount points on the engine.

Update

I haven't posted any progress pics for a few weeks because I haven't really made any and probably won't now for a few months.

I've switched my focus to training on my bike ready for the start of cyclo-x season in September. I'm getting married in December and I've just sold my house so a move is looking imminent.

The good news is the project will be getting a new home in a nice double garage all being well with the sale and purchase.

Watch this space for new garage pics and the project starting again.

Thanks for all the support so far.
