Better let it sink then.

I will imagine most will either be shipped back to the factory or inspected at the port by specialists

That will be a huge waste if they get written off. It will cost insurance companies millions and we may all see slightly higher premiums to cover the loss!

I can't understand why there would be concerns with the safety of the cars? What could have occurred to the cars if they were strapped down and not tumbling around the cargo hold.

No i very much doubt they will be sold as salvage. Can you imagine walking in to your dealer and say "Hi i want to buy a new Evoque"... "Certainly Sir, we have this lovely Silver one reduced by £5000" "Really why so cheap?" "Errmmm.....
The manufactures simply don't want to pass on the risk, no matter how small, to the customer. If something was to happen and somehow that car got linked back to being on that particular boat, then everyone would go mental at them. The safest action is to protect their reputation is to scrap the lot against the shipping agents insurance. (Which has nothing to do with our motoring insurance premiums

Well they obviously wouldn't be sold out of the showroom, There are specialist salvage auctions all over the country
Edit : also it wouldn't have anything to do with the manufactures if they were sold on it would be the shipping agents insurance company trying to regain some of there losses

I can understand about the reputation protection but provided there are no marks on it and it's fully assessed I don't see the problem. Especially if they offered a discount (which would be cheaper than scrapping the lot) - even if they produced new cars to ship over there and sold these ones at discount.
Too much waste for nothing these days.
