So I've been keen to get a set of classic style bucket seats for a while and I was a tad bummed when I missed out on a set a few weeks back. Well, as luck would have it, a friend and fellow mini owner (Dennis) had a set of SA spec MK1 Cooper S bucket seats in storage that he decided to sell. Another friend and mini owner (Quinton) tagged me in the post and reserved the seats for me this afternoon. So I hopped in the mini, took a lovely drive on the mountain pass to his place and now two hours later I had packed the seats into my mini and was heading home :) I was also lucky enough to get a free old school clubman steering wheel from him as well. All in all, a fun Saturday. Rare mini parts and a fun drive in the mini.

Me too. Do you think it will be easy to find a centre badge for it? Since the badge is worn out.

These SA Cooper S seats are probably the coolest seats we got locally as standard on a mini.

I'm sure you'd be able to find one at second hand parts suppliers down that end of the world.

So things have been slow. Sourced some parts, gave some other parts for professional fixing and I've been searching for tools and the correct paints. Decided to check out a swap meet today to look for some old tools, badges, etc., but found this little gem.

It might look familiar to some of you. Jared ;) fitted a similar ammo case to his mk3 to use as a car spares case. I think I might give it a polish and perhaps use it for the same purpose :)

So I picked up the S bucket seats from the upholsterer today and got them fitted.

They're a bit too far forward in the car so need to get some extender brackets. Luckily two of my friends have come to my rescue with those brackets. Hopefully I'll get them in the week and can fit the seats correctly next weekend. In the mean time, tomorrow morning I will have to swap the driver's seat with the original E seat as it feels very weird to drive the car right now.

They do look good though and they're rather comfy :)
On other news, I also picked up the correct silver caliper paint and red engine enamel. The cylinder head is ready for collection from the engineering company and so is a rebuilt gear selector from another friend.

It really is. As a good friend told me. If you're doing a job, you should do it properly or not do it at all ;) Trying my best to stick to that advice and get all the work done correctly.

Yesterday afternoon was a good day. Took a drive to the northern suburbs and picked up the cylinder head from the engineering shop, collected a newly rebuilt gear selector from Harley and bought the necessary piping and hose clamps for the carbs. Unfortunately BMG had ordered the incorrect wheel bearings, so I need to check elsewhere the last component that I need to get for the brakes.

Since I've been moving parts home, my living space has been getting rather full. I decided to take a picture to show how much stuff was being stored around my desk at work before I was told I couldn't keep it there :P (Oh and there is more stuff that needs to come home...)

Lastly, Dominique asked me to take a picture of the funny bus driver driving  position resulting from the seats being too far forward. So here is the photo. :)

Got some tape, the correct high temperature red paint and then decided to tape up and paint the cylinder head. Yay!

So the cylinder head looks pretty good once the tape was removed.

Started work on the brakes too by cleaning and taping them up.

Then for a coat of paint.

Next job to assemble them. Then sandblast the dust shields and paint them and the hubs.
