And would you believe it, in a country with a great military history... we have online military surplus stores! :D

Serious?

Yeah! Here's one link that doesn't seem to be working... typical SA :P

And one which is working. I quite like this bag for storing random car stuff as well.

So two weeks ago on Sunday I took a drive to the seaside for a year end function/breakfast. When parking the car on a rather steep hill, I pulled up the handbrake and the lever came off its mount :( I found a flat parking space and some rocks to chock the wheels.

To compound my misery, when leaving the meet, I was stopped on a hill behind a Jeep. I pulled up the handbrake and forgot that it was broken... Lifted my foot off the brake (like an idiot) and rolled into the Jeep...

I hit the rear mounted spare tyre of the jeep and it suffered no damage whatsoever. Caesar on the other hand was in a far worse state.

Badly bent bonnet, bent grille and bent catch panel...

Yeah dude... felt like utter crap when it happened. Luckily the damage was only cosmetic and the parts are removable.

I took it to the local mini mechanic and (fortunately) he was still working through the holidays. In less than two weeks he fixed him up :D

Got little Caesar back yesterday. He did a really good job straightening the catch panel. The bonnet and the grille were also straightened but I feel they might be too far gone as the bonnet is still not perfectly straight. Maybe some minor fettling and it'll be good again.

I think I'll keep an eye out for a new bonnet and grille and replace them at some stage.

Interestingly the bonnet was in pretty bad shape as it is. The paint was badly scratched and there was (and still is) a small dip in the middle. So getting it resprayed wasn't the worst thing in the world.

The little strap thing at the front of the hand brake where it joins onto the big box section is a serious weak point.

I have 2 minis & one is detached waiting to be welded & the other has already been welded.

Everyone  should check this because if you pull the hand brake hard enough as in an emergency the hand brake itself will pull up without applying the brake.

In the army surplus these look a bit like Italian job helmets !!

Yeah that is exactly where is separated. Luckily it didn't happen in an emergency situation, although it did mean I didn't have a handbrake when I stupidly bumped into the jeep. It's been welded back, so hopefully it'll be good for quite a while now :)

I'd rather not go that route if I can help it. I've asked the guys to keep an eye out for a bonnet for me. I guess the one advantage of fibreglass is the reduced weight.

Something to consider if you don't find one. Clubby bonnet, grille and front bumper can be a nightmare to find in good condition out here.

It's weird though right? I mean the 1100 clubman was the most sold mini in SA, so why are good condition parts so rare?

Thanks for the support guys. I've had it fixed, but it isn't quite right yet so I'm going to take it back in the new year.
