So.....

My partners mini thats shes had for many years now. Its her pride and joy and been used faithfully as a daily through rain or shine. Unfortunately this has taken its toll on the poor blighter. The gearbox is knackered, the front is rusty and electrics are abit tempremental.

The plan is to strip, overhaul and rebuild probably with a colour change and just general spruce up.

Anyway heres progress so far:

Time for some new panels. This is a bulk of all the parts i need to rebuild him.

IMAG0322.jpg

So rolled him on his side and did an obligatory poke about

IMAG0323.jpg

Hmmmm....

Oh dear.....

For god sake.

Oh well, these are all pretty flat panels so with abit of work should be able to replace easy enough.

Think i'll try making a rear subframe jig just for ease of getting the mounting points in the right place. Heaven forbid he ends up crabbing :P

Love the Advantage LE

Shame about changing it away from that but each to their own, i'm just a sucker for LE's!

Just the usual Mini rot spots then, i don't know why but 80's White minis always seem to rot much worse than any other, especially round the front.I don't understand why

Good project though, It will certainly keep you busy!

Good luck

Ben

The colour change is still up in the air atm. I've keep all the original parts so they can go back on if my misses chooses to. Trying to get a definitive answer on what she wants is hard work. Anyone would think she doesn't know what she wants! :P

If you do end up staying original, the Advantage decals are still available e.g from Somerford.

Looks like a good project!

I made the toeboard mount up just ran out to energy to get it done tonight, plus it needs alittle bit more fettling.

Once that's done I can move onto the otherside :/

Been slowly plugging away at it over the last few weeks. Managed to get the drivers side rear subframe mounts all done bar abit of tidying up.

IMAG0408.jpg

Forgot to take pictures of the process but quite please with how it turned out. Still pretty new to panel beating and quite proud of the patch panel i made for the rear quarter.

IMAG0411.jpg

Made up a couple of plates

IMAG0412.jpg

Welded and dressed back

IMAG0413.jpg

Rolled body over and started on the other side

IMAG0414.jpg

After 15mins with wire wheel

IMAG0415.jpg

Started cutting out the manky bits.

IMAG0416.jpg

Left it at that for this weekend. Hope to get this side done abit quicker as i now have a plan of attack.

So been a while, made some progress over the last couple of days. I'm now at the point where the rear subframe is all mounted in with new metal. Only time will tell how straight it is.

So this is where I'm at now. I need to titivat a few welds in the boot. Sort out the new lip along with a few tabs to keep the loom in place. Then finally roll it back on its side and paint it all up.

I can then move forward and start playing with the doors, door steps and front floor although it is nothing compared to the amount of rust I found at the back. Will endeavour to update as and when.

Been plugging away in the garage, for every hole I fix one rears its ugly rusty head. This is where I'm at now anywho:

IMAG0480.jpg

Derusted and prepped the floor right up to the front then a nice coat of POR15

IMAG0482.jpg

IMAG0483.jpg

Rolled over the other way and repeat

IMAG0484.jpg

Turned my attention to the door steps. Patched passenger and then cut out drivers as it was to far gone

IMAG0485.jpg

Then as a change of scenery I stripped the front subframe.

IMAG0481.jpg

Whats peoples opinions on how to treat these. POR15 works really well on rusty metal but both the subframes still have a lot or original paint which will be a pain to strip and POR15 doesn't bond well to smooth metal.
