Depends on the Rover, little rebadges like the city rover are only for for the scrap pile in my opinion. However, they made things like the P5, SD1 and the Land Rover which were marvels!

Ran Rover 45 diesels for several years.
Never paid more than £800 and had trouble free and economical motoring.
There are still a few low mileage cars around as they tended to be bought privately rather than fleet.

paid £700 for my little metro, 46,000 from new, like new inside and out, brilliant little daily drive, never let me down, and is quite fun.

The P5 & P6 were wonderful cars, especially with the 3.5 V8 fitted. I owned a 1972 3500 V8 Auto in 1973 - 4 and it was superb to drive.
The SD1 was a backwards step from the P6 as the suspension was no-where near as good and the build and paint quality were dreadful. I had to get a new company-owned one re-painted when it was 6 months old as it was going rusty - we got rid of it shortly after.
I had a Rover 214Si as a rally car and it was superb in its class. Those 214/25/MG-ZR's are still the car to beat in Endurance rallying. The ZR is excellent value for money and goes really well. Good road-holding, great handling and excellent fuel economy.
I had a 2002 Rover 75 1.8 Turbo and it was a beautiful car to drive, but it was so unreliable. At 60k miles it needed a new turbocharger, the inlet manifold split and let water into the cylinders (major engine re-build), the power steering pump was giving up. I had the car for 11 months and traded it for a BMW which simply never went wrong in 5 years except for minor service items - biggest item was a radiator (£90 and 3 hours to fit).

Yay for BMW. I do like the P6 though, especially with the v8 engine. I was a passenger, in a 1997 Land Rover Defender, and felt like a big mini to be honest.
