I has 2001 25 VVTi thing. Worst piece of crap I ever owned. I only bought it because the wife needed an auto.
Personally I think the build quality was crap. I will never own another.

The 25's where never a good good car to be honest! the turbo conversions on the other hand are Ace!

Each to their own. A mate also had a 600 turbo. Was always breaking down.

Some good, some bad. Rover V8 is the most overrated engine in existence, don't make decent power and they're heavier than everybody makes out.

I miss mine
That is beautiful!
I really like Rovers - despite having a 25 which I am about to break. The only reason is that I got a Focus as the Rover needed a couple of things doing, and I just got lazy. The Rover is at a point where it is not really economical to tidy it up. However, I sat behind the wheel the other day and instantly remembered why I like it and much prefer it to the Focus. I already have interest in the engine, so if that does go ahead, I might have a look at another option for it, something that has been done fairly recently before and would be awesome - especially as a road legal track car. It's something I would do over the longer term though but I will wait and see.
All that aside, Rovers are good little cars. I have had 2 Rover Minis, a 220SDi (my first car) and now the 25. I have never had a problem with build quality on them. I remember wanting the 25 a lot when I had the 220, and now I think I prefer the older shape!
They are like any older car now though - if they have been used solely as cheap motoring, they are for the most part just used and battered sheds. If they are owned by an enthusiast they tend to still be in good condition.

Endurance rallying regs require a standard engine & gearbox up to 1400 cc. Suspension may be up-graded, but the geometry must remain as standard.
My engine was re-programmed to give 117 bhp, but was otherwise standard. I did fit the better head gasket.
Brakes were Mintex 1177 pads.
Cometitive cars include the Pug 106 Rallye, Suzuki Swift, Citroen Saxo, Fiesta 1.4, Corsa & Nova 1.4, etc. But the most competitive car is still the Rover/MG-ZR.
Tyres are to a controlled make/pattern.
It is cheap rallying in relative terms. I did build a 1990 Cooper 1275, but it was seriously hard work against those other cars, so I sold it and bought the Rover. Had a lot of success with it.

It funny how perceptions change, I always hate "with a passion" the Metro (and my Dad's in particular) but now I quite like them. I always wanted a 214 (but got a Corsa) and then hated the MG ZR. I had a Rover 75 for a year and I hated it because at the time I wanted an Audi, but now I quite fancy one.

I remember as a Kid, my Mum had a 1988 Rover 216SE and we all loved it. Even to this day, she talks about it now and then and says it's her favourite car she has ever owned.
I look out on eBay from time to time for them.
I have owned a Rover Metro Rio for a short time and apart from not being able to select reverse gear for some reason, it was reliable and got me from Kent to Nottingham and back a quite few times.
That's about all my dealings with Rovers apart from my Nan's 114GSI which went everywhere without any problems

Not posh like us then, with a mint green colour mk2 fiesta 1.1, or a mk2 vauxhall cavalier.
And an XR3I with electric windows, yes electric.
