I know, I know, they're massive money but not nearly as much as LED headlight units.

3000 lumens is bright awful but they are a mere 30W.

Apart from the price is there a drawback?

i considered them for my daily but looked further into it and reviews really varied, ive used led festoon bulbs in the works van but ended up replacing them as they were awful. ended up using osram night breaker plus bulbs in my car and the difference compared to my originals was night and day.

I am pretty sure I heard somewhere LED headlights weren't road legal unless the car came with them from the factory. But I may be making that up, I know something along those lines has popped up on here before.

That's the kind of thing I'm wondering Alex.  But... they are sold in the UK, they only say: Road Legality: Please Seek advice on National road regulations / Laws before the use of the product. * this clause applies to car use* - See more at: http://britelightled...h.rYxl7Z3L.dpuf

But I've no idea what the UK regs are let alone here.

The regs are that the lamp unit is only approved to be used with the bulb it was fitted with when tested to the standards. Anything other than a filament bulb in a headlamp that got its E mark using a filament bulb is illegal. If your car is old enough to not need approved lamps stamped with a mark then you can use them if you show they give the right light to the right beam pattern and spread. It's not likely they will though really, the reflector and lens are designed for a filament bulb and the light pattern that comes off of one.

OK Dan, my car is '76, does that make a difference?  I'll make some enquiries over here today, I don't hold out much hope at being able to find out much from the ex-farmers at the (only one of them) Vehicle Testing Station though...

One thing I saw - "dipped beam needs" in other words they produce dipped beam only. You will need to another bulb to do high beam....

Where did you read that Dan?

If I go for these I'll be using Horizon LEDs simply because the owner has been very, very helpful in finding a different LED bulb.  If I do go for them it'll be these: http://www.horizonle...kit-3200-lumens
