Well there hasnt been much action the last weeks because ive been getting my daily driver escort Si mot worthy - needed 4 tyres, track rod end, welding to the floor, brake hoses and heater matrix (heater matrix is a complete dash out job so now im having a rest. Just received this morning a manifold for me to butcher for the O2 sensor mount. Im also looking for a suitable fuel pump. Then I really will be getting close to firing it up

Thought id put up a picture of my escort too - none of you will be interested but i really like the pics - i gave it a wash after the mot and thought id get creative with the camera...
So today I started on the exhaust inlet elbow - just needs a flange welding on the end. gonna go to my local exhaust place to see what theyve got lying around. placed the bumper on for this pic, jsut to see what it might look like
Ive decided that because space is so tight between the silencer and the subframe/body at the back im gonna solid mount it to the subframe, and use a flexi pipe between the manifold and silencer - thats what the remaining gap is for

Read that article a while a go when i was fitting this engine in to my mates metro. We did the remote thermostat thing then. Rover list all the parts for the conversion on the parts EPC too, as well as links to lotus elise racing teams who have adapted the conversion for different applications.
Still trying to find a suitable fuel pump. Hopefully will have that sorted in the not too distant future. Uni work is a bit heavy this year, its my final year, so i've not even thought about the car for a long time.

anyone know how a k-series + gearbox compares to an a-series and gearbox?
K is later in the alphabet...they come in 16v as well as 8v....has 5 gears as standard....
I take it you mean weight - not sure
Superted - Nice one, sounds like a bargain. You'll be needing 14's to clear the suspension though. Ive finally managed to get a fuel pump. Things are reet busy at uni at the moment, but I'll be doing little bits at a time and hopefully getting the engine fired up at some point in december

sorry i didnt actually ask the right question!! yes i was referring to weight!! i've heard that a b18c honda engine is over 60kgs heavier than a k-series!! jsut wondered what was closer to that of the original lump for getting the weight balance of the mini correct!!
im interested in forign engine upgrades - k-series, vauxhall, honda, bike power, anyting really. just want to find a modern lump thats close to that of a mini!!
in that king k essay he writes that a full race spec k-series including 7kg of fluids weighs 78kg!!

i will get my shell prepped to look like yours and then have some play around sessions with poly pipe and make a roll cage up then get it made up by the welders at work.
the engine needs the head doing but it is a work in progress so should be a runner b4 xmas rolls in.
ted
p.s. i got a 416 for free so will this be the same block and gearbox essentially as yours???

Good luck fella!
I think the gearbox will be R65 - ie the ones used in metros, but im not sure about that. That doesn't really matter, the only problem is the gear change mechanism. The easiest option is to use the cable linkage and brackets from an mgf as its all intended for a rear engined set up - to use this though, you'll need a pg1 gearbox (like i said, i think you'll have a R65).
Start a thread and get lots of photos up! - we all like photos! If you need any help or suggestions then give me a shout, and if you're in the midlands area at any time let me know and i'll let you have a peak
