I don't think I would be happy with those O2 readings. Way too slow in changing I would say. I could do a video of mine for comparison (same reader). That said, was the car warmed up when you filmed that - ideally having just been out for a run, or if not then at least up to temperature, and revs held at 2k or so.

Also, have you checked the 12V heater coil is getting power OK?  It is fed from a yellow relay on the passenger side bulkhead area. Also have you tried just running with the O2 disconnected? The car will run fine that way, just wouldn't pass and MOT for emissions. If I disconnect mine I can't really tell I've done it.

The coil is a DLB198 which is correct for the SPi according to the list, although it could still be faulty. I'll probably add a new one to list of new parts I've already ordered

The car was fully up to temp when I did the video of the lambda data, not checked the heater relay, at what point should it be switching on and off?

Tried running it without the lambda connected and it didn't seem to make much difference really.

Got the injecton unit and manifold off the car at the moment to give it a clean up and only just realised it has a LCB fitted to it as well, I've only had the car for 10 years lol.

Also the PCT heater is dead, am I right in assuming this is only required for better cold starting and running until the engine is warm?

So far I've bought

  • Code Reader
  • Lambda sensor
  • Cat
  • Stepper Motor
  • Plugs
  • Leads
  • Distributor Cap
  • Rotor Arm

They say the O2 should switch back and forth around 2 times per second at least, maybe 1 time per second is still OK if it's old. PTC heater only affects initial cold running. I'm not convinced it really does much to be honest. The main reason for not bothering to change it is because of the hassle of taking off the manifold, but you have it off anyway so if it is cheap then you could replace it. If it is expensive I personally wouldn't bother.

So just so I understand, are you now running with the new stepper motor installed, without any improvement?

Also have you already renewed the vacuum lines?

No, the list is the new items I've purchased, I'm still waiting for the new stepper to arrive. Hopefully when I put it all back together clean with the new components it will run better. I've ordered new vacuum lines also, forgot to add them to the list. I also now need a new Y piece for the lcb as that put up a fight to get off.

Getting expensive.

Thanks for all your input guys.

Lambda should be 10 times per second when new (ie constantly changing) slowing to around twice per second at which point it's pretty much needing replaced. From your video your at the later end of the scale. The heating element is to ensure the cell inside works properly until the engine gases are hot.
PTC is indeed only used when cold and it's operation is controlled by MEMS, if you removed it make sure it seals properly back to prevent air leaks.
