I'd just position the plate over to the right. If you want it to be factory looking then you could try a small cutting wheel, say a dremel, to grind a slot in the remainder. Then unscrew. Or possibly position a nut over the remainder and plug weld it to the scrivet.

The top of both scrivets are flush with the top of the block.

I think I will try to cut a slot in the top first & see if they will screw out.

Many thanks for all you help.

Hi all

Tried the screwing out method on the cut scrivet as suggested but no luck with that.

So I knocked the scrivets a little deeper into the holes with a centre punch and made an indent on the top of the cut scrivets, purchased a 5/32inch top grade drill bit and drilled the two scrivets out, crisis over.

Now I have cleared out the two scrivet holes, does anyone know of a type of concave headed tool suitable for knocking in the new scrivets into the holes to secure the new engine plate on the top of the cylinder block?

You use a hammer, they are very hard and don't flatten much. A ball-pein hardly contacts them at all so knocks them in very well with little distortion.
