In many modern cars you sit lower than in a Mini. Mazda MX5, BMW Z3 & Z4, Fiesta, Nova, early Corsa, etc.

The rear windows of a fiesta and corsa are at a greater height than that of a mini though right?

Same here. It's at the point for me that I just really avoid drive the Mini or the Moke at night now and those god aweful 'new fangly' blue lights, what's the score with them?  I hate them with a passion.

Do you notice it's even worse driving Moke at night without roof on, the flat windscreen reflects to tailing cars headlights so it looks like they're coming head on. Does that make sense?

Had to job of driving an old Austin 7 home at night so not only were the oncoming lights bright but because the 7's only have 2 watt headlights, I was diving into my own shadow made by the trailing cars lights.

Yes and it drives me mad, even with more modern cars

Modern 'low' cars have dipped mirrors so you wont get blinded by cars following, but you will be blinded by the external mirror and still have a problem with cars coming head

And don't forget the knobs who drive around day and night with their fog/driving lights on.

I wonder if the regs need updating. The range of the dipped beam on many trucks is "challenging" to say the least, but accepted as necessary for the lights being so high. Quite a lot of new cars are almost as high, but as far as I know the beams are checked (against the horizontal) exactly the same as if  they were normal saloons.

Still, when they're all in self driving cars they won't need headlights  :P .

modern cars = retina burn... it happens even when im in the mrs focus and sitting a lot higher up, the new lamps in cars are almost equivalent to full beam :ohno:

and when you get a nice shot of this in the eyes it is a killer.

I've got a 2011 VW caddy, there is no off switch for the driving lights so it's a bit harsh to judge everyone as a knob even if I probably am one :-)

People with rear fog lights on when it's not foggy should be instantly banned from driving forever

Do not get me started on Fog lights ....

I do think something needs to be done about new headlamps though, they are increasingly annoying me especially when the person sits on your tail in the other lane glistening their lights in your mirrors. I seem to think the modern 4x4s are the worse, which is a problem when I work for one of them.

What is the obsession for bright lights? My metro has normal cheap standard bulbs in and ive never felt the need for more light...the roads are well lit enough.

Someone once tturned their dipped beam off behind me in traffic before in the mini. They could see i was being blinded..just wide enough to reflect off both wing mirrors and into my face.

Yes some lights are far too bright, but it is not only cars some cyclists have incredibly bright lights and they are so out of alignment that also is becoming a problem.

I was blinded recently by an oncoming cyclist who had an incredibly bright LED lamp on his cycle helmet......obviously it was moving around with his head which mean't the beam was being sent in all directions!

I assume in NSW they don't yet have the bright LED daytime running lights as fitted on all new cars in UK and mainland Europe?

A lot of it is down to people driving round with their lights on the highest setting they can go, at all times. There's no need to have lights that bright on lit roads at all

Driving lights and fog lights are different thing, people driving round with their front fog lights on because they think it makes their car look good need banning from driving permanently. Especially the ones who argue that they're called 'sports lights' (yes I have had that argument, yes it did wind me up to the point of walking away before I started to hurt someone)

Indicators should be separate to the headlights on all vehichles, the amount of times people are indicating to turn off and I've been sat there because you can't see their indicators! Modern car manufacturers owe me so much time of my life back
