Hi all. A total have a go novice here looking for some wisdom as to the potential cause of a prob with the suspension on my mechanically original 86 Mayfair. The drivers side front wheel is riding a decent amount lower than the others and it has got to the point now that it rubs on the arch when turning left :ohno: . There is also a knocking noise that moves in time with the speed of the wheel whichever direction the wheel is going that doesn't change with braking. I'm hoping to jack him up this weekend to have a nose but if anyone has any ideas as to what I should look at first I would be most grateful for your input!

Cheers in advance :gimme:

The ride height it likely to be a collapsed cone, best to replace both sides.

A combination of collapsed cone but more likely the knuckle joint has worn through the nylon cup. The noise is probably the knuckle joint wearing on the top arm so it is metal to metal. If it is too bad it will be a new top arm required also.

You'll need a supension compressor   http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/TOOL07.aspx    to get the cone in/out.

Thanks for all of the advice. I've been scouring the interweb and have EVEN attempted a look through my Haynes ;-) and it is almost certainly the knuckle joints as suggested. Is this a sod of a job?
Thanks

Your better to get a cone compressor

, new cones and knuckles

And whilst its in bits refurb the top arms and change the balljoints
