Now the lighter nights are imminent I'm going to try grabbing the odd hour or two in the garage to do the jobs i should have done 5 years ago, the little fiddly ones I couldn't be arsed doing... so today I put the left hand boot strap on, very little room to get my sausage fingers round the back of bracket to hold the nut for the bolt. I think my neighbours learnt some new swear words today

 

I also fitted the scabby boot board I scrubbed, repaired using araldite and an old pair of work shorts, and painted black

 

 

 

 

Got loads of stuff to fit. most bought years ago, to be getting on with while I save up for the expensive jobs

I have an issue with the gearbox unfortunately, can be quite crunchy. The concensus on here is that my synchros are shot. I need some paint doing too, so considering a new roof panel to delete the leaky sunroof as well

Also thinking about an RC40 exhaust to quieten it down, and while the gearbox is off maybe change the final drive for better cruising

I would agree there are some expensive works you have planned.
I have a twin box RC 40 exhaust which means I can still have conversations when cruising, what final drive are you considering?

Am I right thinking a 3.1 will give better cruising but a loss in acceleration? I'm a bit too old for the traffic light grand prix these days

Well, none of those plans ever happened last year, never got near it. Having a daughter at uni and having to pay for her accommodation is wiping me out lol

 

Anyway, my youngest daughter is having her prom this year and wants to arrive in the GT so need to get it running better at least, I'll have to get a Mr Bean suit for the special day

I use imgbb for posting photos which seems to work OK for me.

I changed the carb spring, replaced the damper oil with some 20/50 oil and set the valves as per minispares recommendation. Still running poorly, plugs say running way too rich. Carb hasn't been touched since the rolling road. Maybe the cone filter needs cleaning, I intend to replace it with a k+n and original airbox so will try that next

A clogged filter should make it run leaner. Always start with the ignition, especially if it's points 'n condenser. Diffs (actually final drive ratios) are swings 'n roundabouts - Yes  3.1 will be slower than  3.4 thrashing up to 60, or whatever, & the top speed will be down too, without a tail wind. But in the real world all the gear changes can be later, making 3rd useful for extra oomph at speeds it wasn't with 3.4. It could be both more relaxed & more pokey at A road speeds.
