New To Spi Engines. Help

Best Answer FlyingScot , 07 February 2016 - 08:59 AM
UPDATE. I found a small split in the pipe which connects inlet manifold to fuel trap. Replaced that and it's running perfectly. I will give it a good long run now and warm everything up and see how we go.
I have also replaced my alloys with the orignal steel wheels and wheel trims that where found on the 1995 sidewalk. It's now as oringal as it left the factory.
Thanks everyone. I will get pictures up soon
The 3rd answer to your original question....

I have tired to adjust the throttle link which I found at the back of the carb (little 7mm nut on a small screw that turns and pushes against the pin for the stepper motor.

It cannot be done by pressing the throttle 10 times unless you have an early SPi system with the throttle switch.

You have to work logically through the information on the pinned threads. Diving into "I've had a smiliar problem and it was.." wont help.
The system tries at all cost to keep the car running despite sensor failures misadjustments etc but relies on the fact that your then local Rover dealer would plug it into Testbook at service time or when you found an issue and determine what was amiss.
If you don't have diagnostic gear and can't buy or borrow some you need to go through each step carefully.
Most problems on SPi cars are due to lack of maintenance (vacuum pipes, sensors etc) and deterioration (wiring, lambda, stepper motor coils relay packs etc).
Have a look through the the pinned threads and also the one on having a code reader and look to see if there is someone local to you who could help.

I appreciate all the advice, still learning my way round the spi and apologise if I've repeated questions or annoyed people by using the wrong sections

Definitely not just you or you...
I am just trying to learn and contribute as best I can...
I don't have a lot of direct experience with SPi, though I have helped sort a few.
