Honestly cant see why this is such a recurring topic
Those coil springs are just 3 or 4 coils, so cant have a progressive a rate really
You cant fit a linear spring to such a limited travel suspension, it will bind too easily

What's your opinion Dusky I can see your reading lol

You can t see it because you already made a mistake in that statement. Racecars suffer no coil binding. and imagine unlimited funds: If you d use a titanium spring you d only need 1 coil ( same as vizards valve spring principal).Honestly cant see why this is such a recurring topic

With regards to all the comments about travel, has anyone thought how much travel if any the rubber cone travels. I get the coil binding possibility but if you set the car up with the correct ride height and adjustable shock absorbers. How many people who have commented, have tried and tested this kind of setup ?

Hi Dusky Minitastic was the company I was recommended by a friend who has this set up in Nottingham, he loves the setup but his car is off the road with an engine rebuild so I can't have a test drive.
I spoke with Steve at Minitastic yesterday just to have a more technical chat mainly Minispares comparison.

I thought we were talking about minis not nascars or whatever

so can anyone make or get some pound inch numbers for these springs, say every 5mm of compression (as there is not much posibility to compress them that much) then we can see some real info.

Measured at the Knuckle Joint, there is 53 mm of travel. This is to go from Full Rebound (extension), to Full Compression (to 50% bump stop height). I wrote to Minitastic a while back and they advised that their 'Normal' Springs have 35 mm of compression before spring bound and the 'Fast Road' have 38 mm, so we do run a bit short.

What would be the standard compression travel for the cones though?
these pics will show why any spring is better than no spring I guess, these were the cones I removed from my car.. Anyone wants a pancake? ( excuse the lack of good holding of the tape measure, but since my thumb cuddeled a drill bit I cant hold anything with it
)

I think I'll give up on this thread because, having been accused of posting 'rubbish', no-one, repeat no-one, has given any explanation as to why or how a coil spring can be better than the rubber cone springs which were designed for the car.
The answer must have actual measured numbers of load v deflection, together with details of how much relative suspension travel there is with each type of spring before coil-binding happens (in the case of coils).
There seems to be some confusion over all this.

Only a fool would accuse you of saying rubbish! :)

53 mm 'though' the rubber cone + when fitted with a stock front trumpet 9 mm pre-load.
