Some of those type of torque wrenches do only work in one direction. They are reversible in so much as you can change the ratchet direction, but not the torque break. If you read the reviews on that page, someone else has had a similar experience.

Try undoing a known tight nut with the wrench set relatively low and see if clicks with low input force, maybe a wheel but with the wrench set at 20lbft. If it hasn't clicked before the nut starts to undo then it only works in one direction! Remember to retighten the nut afterwards if you do undo it (wheel nut 45lbft).

The type where the 1/2" drive pushes through ratchet freely in one direction and apply torque in the other. Just push the square shaft through and fit the socket on the back.

Halfords own brand are that type, or were when I bought two several years ago.

Yes, but that's not the type he's linked to.

Unfortunately torque wrenches are one tool people seem reluctant to spend money on. Recognising you need one is the first step to doing a job properly, but you do really need a good one.

As Tiger says, the Halfords ones are a nice tool, properly calibrated and not expensive for their quality.

Sorry, missed the link to the torque wrench. It is misleading, says it is reversible, but probably that is only the ratchet as already stated.

I see that Minisport have a facility to submit reviews on their site. I strongly recommend that everyone who has purchased these dangerously defective bearings submit reviews to that effect.

Some of those comments are priceless particularly the ones using 1/4" sockets to do up wheel nuts ... And wonder why the 1/2" - 1/4" adapter snapped ...

Does sound like it's not going to work with the reverse thread. I have a Draper 1/2" drive torque wrench and that works both ways. And a 3/8" for the nuts and bolts below 30Nm.

Maybe a call to Minisport would be a good idea? Not only can you describe the problem, but it can help others too - perhaps they have a defective batch of bearings and don't know it? I doubt they would check & measure each bearing at goods inwards. Also, they can straight away send a replacement or a refund.

It is doubly illegal here, misrepresentation (Trade Description laws and common fraud) and selling dangerously defective goods (Product Liability laws). They can also be charged with corporate manslaughter, and company directors individually with manslaughter, when one of their many defective products kills someone. Why does anyone ever buy anything from Minisport?

Have always had good service from Minisport, and the very few times there has been a component problem, a quick call got a (good) replacement sent. They also seem happy to give technical advice on the phone when there's a question about the products sold. So, keep going back.

Oh they know it alright, but are completely ignoring/still selling them along with quite a few of the other mini suppliers.

All I can give is my experience, which with Minisport has been good - over the last 8 years of maintaining a SPi and ground up rebuild of a barn-find van. I'm sorry you don't share the same experience, Spider.

Buy them from Somerford Mini :) Not too expensive and they are the genuine article.
