89 mini mayfair. ive noticed that the engine and subframe seem to move when the moving the steering side to side but the body doesnt. when you do this you can also see the tower bolts moving from side to side as well. is this just a subframe mount?

thanks in advance.

Hi,

Yes, more than likely just soft or deteriorated sub frame rubber mounts. Check the teardrop ones at the front of the sub frame where it attaches to the front panel, the rubber can come away from the backing on these particularly, but all mountings can be replaced fairly easily!

Cheers, Steve.

Best to fit the all solid mounts and regain the steering response for which the classic Mini was originally famous.

DO NOT fit the poly bushes - they are not good.

I often wonder why the poly mounts are still sold, along with oversills, wheel bearings that don't work, and various other dubious items. Some suppliers don't seem to care about product liability laws or their own reputation. Caveat emptor, which is all the Latin I know.

Probably the most important bit of Latin you'll ever need to know.
