When I said there was no sign of damage, I meant no sign of damage bad enough to cause the A pillar problem. Here's a photo of the damage, scrape down the side.

As you can see, it's just looks like a side swipe.

Is It just me or do you have a crease in the top rail? And also that scrape down the side could have easily pushed the a post back.

Are you talking about the inner rail ? with the ashtray hole in the middle ? then yes there is a little kink in it.

I've got to get this fixed, the car is original and has hardly any rust on it at all. even the inner sills are original and in perfect condition. The doors are rusted, there is a hole in the front floor but thats all thats wrong.

Looking at the damage caused down the side, it looks like the car was hit from the rear, starting at the door and down onto the Apex panel then wing. This has pushed the A frame into the centre of the car.
I would guess that the top hinge is bent and the door frame distorted, can you get a non damaged door and hinges and fit those and then take pictures of the door fit.
The A frame will just knock back into shape with a block of wood and heavy hammer.
Its vital that you take pictures of the door fit showing the gaps

What midridge2 says makes sense and looking at that damage most if not all of it can be beaten back into shape. Having a good door will help and talking of doors have a look where the hinge mounts on the door frame itself. This could also be distorted. I have repaired four damaged doors where there has been serious cracking and damage there and as each door on a mini is tailor fitted at the factory then it will not take much for things to go out of line.

The door frame has taken a hit by the lookks of it.

But it was hit from the front to back not back towards the front.

The A post has been pushed in, backwards and up.

And there's this

When the door is moved fwd that gap will decrease. The A post has moved. there is no doubt about that. So sorting that out will bring the door back to where it should be.

The window frame can be bent back but its likely to crack where it goes into the door itself. No big deal as this can easily be sorted. I have cut and moved them around and added metal to get decent gaps on my lads car

That's some good work you did there, but why did you have to do it ? Why was it so far out ?
I don't want to go to that extreme, I will get it as good as possible and live with it.
I'll be busy on it all weekend and let you all know what happens.
Pete.

They were second hand doors that came with the car. The car itself was straight although rusty as hell but I had replaced the full inner wings although the A posts themselves were OK. I had moved the window frame around a bit by using a block of wood and some large bars but it still did I not sit right. The door was gapped after a new skin was fitted etc so that was ok. I did have a few issues with that but considering I had replaced virtually the whole of both sides of the car it was not too bad.

If you have a look at a lot of minis you will see different gaps around the window frame, door gaps etc. I have very large gaps on my clubman. Now I know the car had been rear ended but had been repaired. Again I have changed everything from the bottom of the windows down and will be rest inning the doors properly.

You need to sort the A post to make sure that is straight then either replace the door or repair it. With the A post straight this will then position the door.
