Hello,

Happy to have found this forum , I am looking for some clarifications.
I have a dear classic 35 standing in the garage.
It has always started perfectly.
Now, after a long rest I do not have any fuel coming up to the carb.
I need to know the order in which to locate the problem. I can see the mechanical fuel pump underneath the carb.
Is there an electrical pump in the back of the car? Can that be the origin?
Where is the fuel filter placed?
If necessary, how do I dismount the mechanical pump?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Merci!

Hi and welcome. If you have not checked already the pipe from the pump to carb remove the pipe from the carb end and put a cloth over the end and get help to crank the car for a second or two if fuel come out chances are pump is OK. If no fuel. Either tank is empty. Filter..usually (not always) a filter just as it come out of the tank which you can get to from under the back of the car. If you figure pump is at fault it's easy. A little tricky to remove by undoing the two 1\2 nuts and pipes..the gasket seal most times gives it a tight grip. If you find you have fuel after the simple test of checking for fuel it's possible that the float is at fault and stuck closed .
Hope this helps. If not others will be about soon ))

Hugo,

On the earlier Minis there is no in-line fuel filter fitted between the tank and the engine. It's a good idea to put one of the small disposable clear plastic in-line fuel filters in the petrol line just before the carb. This catches any rust or other dirt particles - unless you're very lucky there will be some in any old petrol tank. This filter before the carb helps to prevent float needle sealing problems caused by dirt.

There is normally a mesh filter inside the petrol tank covering the end of the pipe. This does not normally need any attention, but on rare occasions can get blocked. Probably not happening in your case, as you are getting fuel flow.

Other main check to make is to be sure the petrol tank air vent is clear, if the air can't get in then the fuel won't come out. This is a small diameter plastic tube coming out of the top of the tank inside the boot.

Cheers Carbon!

Understood!

As I have taken off the carb I will add a filter inline.

You misunderstood, I have NO fuel arriving, so I will dismount the pump.

A hard thing to do as I have not found the right position/tools.

What can be the problem in the pump itselff?

So I decided to take out the carb and do some cleaning!

I will certainly also check out the mesh filter.

Thanx Carbon!

DO i need to take the exhaust pipes off???

What tool is recommended?

Please advice!
