Hello all.

I am looking to spray my Mini myself, but as I have no way of spraying it via a gun.... (compressor is too small, and got no where to "store" the mini while painting....)

I am looking to spray it with rattle cans. I was wondering after a stroll around halfords today, what "matte" colours can you get, i noticed Matte Black, and Matte White... can you get other colours?

Also where can I get Matte Lacour? to look after the paint job after its all done etc....?

Cheers all.

Why do you want to spray Matt and then laquer??? you're making more work for yourself without needing to
buddy.

Either buy 'Satin' finish (which is Matt finish paint but with a gloss agent that doen't add shine but does add weather resistance)

Or buy normal 'gloss' car paint. (all types of paint can be supplied from your local paint guy, and halfrauds will mix any matt/satin/gloss requirment you have, just be very precise about what you want.

With the quality prep, time and care your finish will stand up to the elements fine, with regular cleaning and waxing.

when caring for paintwork, you clean it, then polish it, and then wax it. the polish makes it shine and the WAX protects it from the elements.

You can't polish Matt paint :-

So Satin paint is what I need to go for?
I was thinking I had to lacour it, to protect it a bit more.

Of course you can't polish matt paint you numpty!!!! :1eye:

the reason i said about polishing is because in your post you sound like you want shiny glossy paint by putting matt colour on then laquering to shine! Lol......... stick...... wrong end :-

Anyways dude. Laquer will add shine.

Get SATIN Finish paint.

Satin finish is differnt from matte finish as it has a glossing agent in it. However in this case, the agent doesn't not add a gloss finish, but it does include the water repellency of gloss. so you get your MAtt finish, but it's much MUCH more weather repellent than just MAtt which can often be a bit rough.

Satin is far more classy than Matt lol, even on rat look cars. you wont be dissapointed.
so you're basically gonna be using a 1stage paint. spray on, job done.

:1eye:

Yes you can get Satin ANY colour from you local paint store...... not sure about halfrauds buyt I imagine they might be able to produce satin finish colours. My only fear is that 'most' people working at halfrauds are just told what button to press and don't really know the ins and outs of the ducks arse when it comes to paint mixing. Might be worth trying to find out where your nearest paint guy is. Mine can definatly do satin any colour.

Any solid colour can be made into a matt colour or satin matt finish, its the basic paint and a matting agent is added, the more you add the more matt it becomes, the less you add it becomes satin.

this is my opinion and will differ from others.

post deleted and thread left.

Opinions do differ, an opinion is just that... not a statement.

pmsl. out off interest retro, how many times have YOU mixed paint.

im still trying to work out why they would put matting agent in basic paint for mixing and then add a glossing agent to make it shine, why not just leave the matting agent out from the start.

i would guess that over the years i have mixed thousands of litres of paint and ive learnt some thing new from you today.

if you spray a base coat on you can spray the clear on mixed with 50% matting agent and this will give you a matt finish also.

this is my opinion and will most certanly differ from retro 10s

Well maybe you could answer my next problem...

I have some options...

Roller paint,
Rattle can paint
brush paint
or if i am VERY lucky, use the compressor to paint

Only problem I have using the compressor is the garage I want to do all my spraying in is about 400-500 yards up the road, so no chance of running a lead up there, and I can't afford a genny to run the compressor.... I have the sprayer etc for it, just not anywhere to actully spray with it :-

I am now looking at a orange, and its a gloss, finish, so means I can polish it :1eye: What would you adivse?
