Heyup

The project is now underway to get my 1275 in, at the moment, we just getting extra parts together before it goes in, Like engain steady, Oil cooler etc.

Its a bit mucky at the moment and I have the paint for it (Bright red! Yummy) Just what should I use to remove all the geasey, oil and petol off the block?

Last time I painted my 1000, My dad had this really old, old tin of stuff called "Gunk" After that, there wasnt any left... Is Gunk still around? Or is there anything else I can use.

Many thanks

:-

Ah yes, good old gunk. I remember my Dad used that on our old 998 Mini City a few years back, made a huge difference to the appearance of the block. One thing to watch out for though is that when you wash it off it can stain the floor underneath, so best not to do it on your nice new driveway...

I've also heard that WD40 is a good general purpose cleaner, even if it's useless at lubricating...

White sprit, brake clutch cleaner, petrol, gunk, they all work. Just make sure that once it’s clean you go over with a wire brush to remove any lose paint and rust that could mean the paint doesn’t stick properly.

And the factory paint is still on the engine, unlike when I did mine a few months back didn't know if I was cleaning the muck of or it was rust as the factory paint had all long but gone.

Only I wish it still looked like this though, bloody rocker cover gasket has leaked oil all down the front. :'(
Any ideas as to a cleaner that isn't to abrasive so it doesn’t strip all the paint off, but cleans all the grime and oil off?

Ps I know theres no washer fluid in the bottle in that pick.
