You don"t really want a limited slip diff for rallying.

That's the beauty of the ATB, it's not at all snatchy, drive one on the road and you don't even know it's there, when you need it it helps out a lot, along with a KAD rear ARB it's made the car (still on Hydro) much more 'pointy', plus it compliments a smooth driving style.

This is, of course, in a car that's used on the road, and for Sprints and Hill Climbs, your rally car is a different animal (and you have the experience on the loose Peter) but as they are so mild when they operate (plus very strong) I would have thought they could work well to give more traction over a standard set up on loose surfaces :-)

The problem with an lsd in a rally car comes when you turn into a tightening bend and the outside wheels run onto a looser or slippy surface. Lifting off with an lsd is not an option as rather than bring the back round the diff causes under-steer whilst putting the power on causes the wheel which still has grip to pull the car further off the road. My son retired from a rally in Belgium when exactly this happened. I have tried Minis with lsd's on wet and dry tarmac and on gravel and have never made one work for me.
A good friend of mine who is also a former British Rally Champion reckoned that when he was given a Mini to drive on the RAC Rally the lsd cost him at least 15 minutes of lost time.
Maybe on dry tarmac and detailed pace notes an lsd could be made to work.

Yes there are some really harsh LSD's out there, your experience is always appreciated :-)

Yeah, I'd agree,

However, the Quaife is NOT an LSD but an ATB. I am guessing you've not tried one? Seriously, keep an open mind and if the funds will stretch, give one a go. You'll be pleasantly surprised ;D   I will never ever go back to an open diff.

As a bonus, you'll never break the ATB.
