well cat was made madatory 1/2 through 93 probably when the reg changed. but because mines a K if they even mantion it i can just claim its a 92...i dont think they would know or care much
but i got it MOT'ed through southam last year so they send it somewhere that deals in minis alot, so they know what to look for which is why in the send it failed on quite alot of stuff where if i took it to another place they woudlnt bat an eye lid

Today I bought a de-cat pipe and got home to find I didn't actually have a CAT :w00t: I have a silencer instead. Is there any way to take this off? If yes, what do I replace it with?

Providing its not the standard one piece exhaust system, you just replace the link pipe from the manifold to the rear silencer with a straight through one.

you can get carb'd minis on 94 reg, and maybe even 95, the mayfairs, sprites etc. any mini with a carb engine doesn't need a cat, and a carb engine wouldn't be able to pass a cat test. the tester should be able to put the vin or reg number in the computer and see that the cat test is not needed. hope i make some sense.

i am bored with this thread. it has come up so many times.

here is the link for the MOT manual and specifically the bit about exhausts and emmisions.

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_730.htm

Basically any car built on or after 01 August 1992 NEEDS a CAT test.

BUT...

Any decent MOT place though i reckon will give a Carb'd mini a normal test though as they know it is hard for it to pass the CAT test.

this year my mini passed but they used the older rules.(i still fitted the CAT for the MOT just in case)

If it's that boring then get a Mod to pin it in the FAQ! Then you'll never have to see it again :w00t:

We can't post up every single question that gets asked more than 5 times in the FAQ section, otherwise it would be more of a mess than it already is!! We rely on people use the elusive search button!!

the question isnt boring just all the urban mytths and guesswork.

all the answers are in that link.

anything else that your local MOT place does or doesnt do is up to them
