Cant see any mini owners or community funding this.

There were mini clubs doing fine before the internet was around. People contacting each other and swapping spares etc.

Theres also a real security issue here if the app was hacked. I assume it uses the location feature which pinpoints a user. This potentially could be hacked and minis traced.

Give it a go yeah.....request others to fund it no.

From the development side of things security is a major focus!

However saying that there is easier ways to find out where people keep there Mini's than hacking an app!

If it fails the Kickstarter, the app will continue to be worked on, will just take a bit longer :)

Focusing on minis is probably too narrow of a potential userbase, widen to any car enthusiast, maybe.

Hello,

I have recently been working on a social media app for iPhone/Android.

It is designed for Classic Mini owners, and features the typical social network stuff such as "chat", and "meet (people in your city).

It also heavily features the club aspect!

This makes it easy for user to find Mini Clubs near to them!

Here are a few screenshots, I would very much appreciate some feedback, and am interested in anything you feel will improve the app feature wise!

Looks like a good base idea, just a suggestion but maybe you could consider adding a thing that tells you the nearest parts suppliers from where you are?

Great idea, will be a global app, so may be a bit difficult to do this, but I should be able to roll it out slowly!

Maybe you could get a thread going on here to compile a list of suppliers, I'm sure there's plenty on here

It is an even greater idea if provides you with a way making a bit of income while still keeping the app free. You could also include a calendar for events - share who's going and arrange convoys???.

The biggest concern would be security. Could you have a Star Trek style cloaking device? That way you needn't give away where your Min sleeps etc. It'd be dead clever if you could automate it with  GPS sensed "exclusion zones" and speed or motion detection. Tinkering with the tracking "resolution" could also be useful - say you drove around in a 10km (adjustable?) "inclusion zone" that pinged when it overlapped that of another user.

If you want to have a go at automated activation, chucking your phone in the washing machine should give a fair approximation of the ride quality and humidity  :P

.......................................

Are you not focusing too narrowly? There are bigger potential user groups than Classic Minis - cyclists, caravaners, backpackers. I don't  know enough about social media apps to see if you have a USP, but it seems likely they'll be better resourced to do the policing and maintenance that users will want for safety and security. Maybe speaking to the providers of similar apps would be the way forwards?

Best bit on the security front is that it doesn't actually reveal where people are!

It says that they live in the town or what ever but nothing more revealing than that!

Forgot to mention I have already included events and such!

Notifications can be sent out to people in clubs to say the "club meet is on tonight" etc.

And then bigger auduences will get notification about the big shows on etc such as Mini In The Park, and London 2 Brighton!

I think it might have more appeal if it could be more accurate at times. Imagine tracking Minis on the L2B to see what routes they're taking or having a trace of your last club run to index photos and Gopro footage against etc.

Seems like an idea that has the potential to be useful if enough people use it.
I think too many people are focusing on the location aspect. As he says if it is similar to tinder, it's only going to give a very rough area, maybe even a town, so no one is going to know your precise location.
Seems to me that it may make it easier to find people in your area to maybe help you with advice, repairs, social meets etc. You can never have too many mini sites/forums!
Less doom and gloom and more positive feedback/advice needed I think.
Although I have not backed the idea yet, I am seriously considering it as I can see the vision you have
