Hot hatch ish 106 quicksilver
R100 with a k series
Something I always fancied for a laugh
fiat seicento sporting.
Everyone loves a Metro haha. Is the fiat the one that was in the Inbetweeners?? If so, I couldn't do it. I do like Italian cars though.
+1 for a pug 205 and preferably the 1.9 diesel. Great little go carts.
I wish I had a 1.9GTI before they became collectable.
Loving the 205. Diesels were also massively good on MPG weren't they I seem to remember??
I'll probably be shouted down but how about a 1999 or 2000 Toyota Yaris 1.0 vvti?
Easily get one for £400, does 50mpg plus on a run, super cheap parts, not a bad drive and Toyota reliability.
Opps, just saw your last comment!
We had a 1.7D 205, I think it was a GRD - great little car and did good MPG ... I think they did a sporty version with a bigger engine and a turbo, maybe a GRDT ...had 205 1.6 GTI alloys on it as standard.

I've recently done the same as what you're planning, I bought a VW Golf, MK4 1.6 petrol. Bit over your budget, mine cost me £875 with 96k miles. But it's a great car, really nice to drive I average 35-45mpg depending on the mood of my right foot. Mine is quite a nice spec, it's got air con and alloy wheels... (it's called the "Match").
The Mk4 Golf was the only car which really caught my eye when looking for a second car, spent a month or so looking and got a decent one. Mk2 Polo "Breadvan" is a great suggestion though, I'd love one!

Mk2 Golfs tend to attract the "Scene Tax". I would suggest a Mk3 Golf. Most reliable car I ever owned. Cheap as chips as they're not popular with the modifiers (unless they're a GTi or VR6)...
Good shout. Look... I found a 'mint example' https://www.gumtree....iles/1200696566

another vote for a 205! we have a 1.6 auto mardi gras in the family, bought for 500 quid with 44k on the clock.
dirt cheap parts and like a new car once we'd replaced a couple of perished rubber items
I too have noticed an abundance of low cost low mileage yarises (yarii?)
good luck!

but a more serious suggestion,
mk1 or mk2 Polo Breadvan - seriously cheap, retro AF.
Another vote for a breadvan - I've got one a totally rust free one ('85 1.3 Formel E) - brilliant little car - not fast but a total doddle to work on - can be ignored for weeks and starts right on the button every time, parts still readily and cheaply available.... when I got it it hadn't run for over a decade - to recommission it cost under £200......and flew straight through the mot..... total retro blast to drive too! (beware though - only drawback is brakes are nigh on useless by modern standards...later models had a servo.....)
.... so why do I love minis?!?!
Quick edit.... missed that you'd got one!!!! - enjoy they're great little mini Volvos!!!... you're has got a bonus 100K over mine! - good buy tho!!! One the basis mine was £100.... you paid...hmm .... £50?!?!?!?

Not that cheap unfortunately. £120! Injection and a brake servo It even came with a couple of little bits to keep me occupied in the evenings.. a broken window winder mechanism, leaking rear screen washer pipe and a broken cabin heater blower resistor!

I would only reccomend a toyota starlet 1.3. I know it's jap but it's the best car I've ever owned. Cost £250 with 9 months MOT, I drove it 180 miles home after crashing it, and it does 40mpg regularly. I love it to pieces.

Didn't see the second page. I'd love a breadvan, and you picked up an awesome choice imo. A friend has gone through about 8 as he's heavily into dubs and his flies with a set of bike carbs on a tweeked 1.3 gt engine
