Had my Mini at Kenny Brown engineering in Glasgow recently, had fitted adjustable arms, hilos etc and needed it set up. He found that with the height and arms set where he wanted them it was touching the bump stops, his advise was to drill holes in them to make them softer, they are rock hard! As an alternative they could be cut down but he did say softer more pliable bump stops are available which would help with this...

bump stops,,,,,,,,,,, they are rock hard! .

Gotta agree. The standard Bumps stops are very awful things. I'd forgotten that!

Try the Competition Type Bump Stops. They do mount to the Arm, so not quite straight forward as you'll need to drill out the mounting bracket they come with, however, while with the standard bumps stop YOU KNOW when you've touched them, however, with the Competition Bump Stops you will have no idea if you are on them or not. It's almost like have a secondary spring rate.

So the standard bump stops are too hard then?

Is trimming them down a massive no no or just not the best option? Not talking making massive cuts just shaving a few mm off the bottoms.

Trimming them will make them shorter, but if the shape is lost, the harder will only become harder!

Personally, I wouldn't quite say a no-no, but certainly not the way I'd go.

With the Competition Bump Stops, they are internally shaped and slightly less in height than the standard ones. Being shaped the way they are, they are progressive in rate, so unlike standard bumps stops, you can actually 'ride' on them to some degree.

Ah got you. Maybe I'll look into getting a set of them.
How much of a pig to replace?

The standard bump stops are a pig to replace, as the nuts are inside the subframe tower. Not a fun job.

The Competition ones fit the the shocker bolt on the suspension arm, so are very easy to fit, you just need to drill out the hole from 5/16 to 3/8" clearance.

These   https://www.minispar.../C-AJJ4007.aspx

Gotta say, I cut the old stops off these days - lazy I know, but I can't see the point in disturbing everything else to undo something I'm only throwing in the bin.

Fitted the new bumpstops as above,
The suspension definitely feels better but still can't get it low enough for my likings.

Looks like it will be different wheels / arch modifications.....

There just be somthing else I can do.
Looking around there is loads of minis much lower than mine.
Mine is on the bumpstops and can still get 2-3 fingers between wheels and arch.....

So what is the measurement between ground and the subframe where the lower arm joins.

That will give you a real figure rather than measuring against a wing that may have been correctly.

6.5 inches from ground to subframe.
