Is the carb new or freshly rebuilt. I know from experience with 32/36 DGAV's that the wrong jets will cause all sorts of aggro. Also air leaks are another issue as well. Correct float height etc etc.

I'll also add to my other comments that of the machining of the block in the first instance isn't up to scratch, you'll also loose power form that, however, as per my first, and your dyno figures,,,,,,,

Testing on another dyno would probably be the best thing to do, or at least a road comparison with one of known similar HP and torque figures. I would try advancing the cam 4 degrees and see if that helps.

Just an update on this. I junked the Weber and fitted twin HS2s.

Now getting 56bhp with 57 torque.

Throttle response is phenomenal compared with the Weber. It feels like a different car!

That is virtually a 998 Cooper spec and the power is what you should expect.

If you did a bit of mild gas flowing to the 295 head by removing the inlet and exhaust guide bosses and de-shrouding the valves a bit you would see a further improvement. Also, did you clean up inlet manifold for the SU's? That also helps a bit more.

You should get around 60 bhp if you do those extra and easy improvements.

The head was 'cleaned up' a bit before fitting. I didn't pay a lot of attention to the manifold to be honest, so maybe room for improvement in the future. Overall I'm very happy with it now. No need for a big bore in my book.

How's the 850 coming along Peter?
