Need to remount a wiper motor and it needs to be about 25mm away from its original position. just wondered if bending the tube a bit would have a detrimental effect on the rack moving inside the tube

Wouldn't think so as long as there are no sharp bends. If you ever replace the tube, it comes straight and you have to bend it as required (and form the ends)

You need to take care when bending or you will trap inner.

Pull inner and get a solid rod (screwdriver or welding rod) which is tight to the id and gently bend in a vice.
I did this to convert a mk3 to a Mk1 and re made the flare using an 8mm die and punch

Avoid any sharp bends as the motor struggles with more than a 8lb pull with the boxes on and wipers on the screen

You need to fit a mandrel inside the tube for bending or it's ID will reduce and pinch the inner rack.

Yes, they are weak as. I gave up on the standard wiper set up, they really are hopeless.

Have you found anything suitable?

I am still looking as I have messed up one bundy.

I did one a few years back. I got some steel wire rope that was a neat but not tight fit inside it, greased it, fit it, did the bend and then struggled but did eventually get the wire rope back out. Tip: don't use the fine stranded stuff, go for a course strand wire rope, the fine stuff just flattens out.

While this worked for me, I'm not convinced it's the best way forward.

Like the thinking. I was contemplating a flex drive for a 1/4 set and cutting one end off.

What did you end up with? Suitable for a Mini?

Actually, I haven't gotten there yet with a Set up for a Mini, but is on the list.

The one's I've done are for the Moke. As ridiculous as it may sound, they are a set for a Truck / Bus. They have 35 NM Torque at the blade - enough to shift mud. I worked on the design over a few months with a company in the US who now have them as a standard design for us.

Has built in washers in the blades too!

For bending you ideally need something like an old-fashioned plumber's bending spring. (The suggested flex drive for a drill might be a good approximation.) I think that they are available for microbore pipe, possibly 6, 8 or 10mm. Try a plumber's supplier.
