This did make we wonder if there is a more fundamental difference. Going by Nick's photo it does look like the BJ's are offset by the caster so the balls are centred when fitted to the arms.

Makes you think about the machining process. I'd imagine boring the bearing seats first and mounting them on a mandrel so the other operations can use the bore as a datum would be easiest. You could then rotate the mandrel 180 degrees to drill and face for the nipples with the same tooling, so they're pointing in opposite directions. There's no choice on disc hubs as the caliper lug is in the way.

The grease nipple holes point one way.
Can't remember off the top of my head if it is forward or backwards.
I think forwards. Look in your Haynes manual.

The Top Ball Joint Nipple is forward facing and the Lower, rear facing.
That's weird, I swear my nips are both facing forward.

Curious. I'll check a hub later.

Absolutely correct MokeSpider. Top BJ grease nipple forwards facing, Lower BJ grease nipple rearwards facing. Steering arm 2 bolt holes on the top of the hub to get the correct orientation for LH and RH.

disc brakes yes top and bottom are different.

Yes disc brake version, sorry. Haven't laid under a drum brake version to grease BJ's for a very long time!
