I think the two wires might be for the rev counter.

I hope so. They weren't connected to anything so hoping that.

When I removed the fuel tank I noticed the boot floor wasnt too bad. It has been patched at some point before, straight over the old rust. Why do people even do this?!!

What do you think is best to do with the boot floor? I was going to fit a complete new one but im not too sure now.

The screw driver would not going through the rust on the 2nd pic near the bracket

and this is the hole in on rear bench

Is it worth saving and repairing or replace?

Underneath looks fine apart from the patch repair that has made a rust sandwich. It has little bits of surface rust but nothing a screw driver can go through, mind that being said the rear bench has that hole in it.

I will get some pics tonight as the car us up on axle stands, next job is to get the gear selector off and get the engine dropped as everything is off ready

Its amazing how quickly time goes by with work and other things in life, I haven't been able to get on with much on the mini until the last few days.

All the interior is stripped out now. Ive managed to get the engine and front sub frame out so just the rear subframe to come out and the fuel and brake lines and it should just a bare shell.

I decided to just cut the front end off to aid with the engine removal, no matter which route I go with repairs the front end would be coming off anyway!

Unfortunately once this is stripped down progress is going to come to a halt with the wedding rapidly approaching. After that is all sorted I will be adding to the mini fund and either looking to go down the diy or pro route. I've had this discussion with you before and just need to work out what the costs will be etc, roughly I think I need £3k in panels, ouch.

Good progress.

I purchased a late registered ‘96 P plate Sidewalk in Kingfisher Blue from South Shields last year.

Nice work, that shell really doesn't look to bad at all.

How was the car with being on the north east coast?

It's just a typical mini of that age really. From my list this is what I think needs replacing

Front end
Inner and outer wings
Scuttle
A panel
Complete floor
Door step repairs
Boot floor
Boot

Doors need reskin
Bonnet is questionable

It's just the usual like I said, I'm going to shy away from patch repairs and just replace panels if I can. When I say i, I mean either me or someone who knows what they are doing

It came from the Simonside area, between Jarrow & South Shields. Previous owner had a bit of work done on it and parked it up for 6-7 years. Sidewalk is a useable daily/weekend car. It needed a bit of work to get it back on the road. It was at the Ryhope show in April.

Did you attend the NEMC show last week?

I think I can recall the Mini being there, we always have a look along to Ryhope as it’s a nice local event.
I went to the Mini Mania show last Sunday. Was a nice turn out and a decent show.

The Sidewalk was parked beside a ‘84 red Mini Sprite at Ryhope. Yeah, NEMC show was good, my ‘72 OEW Mini Van with a roof rack fitted was parked in the small courtyard area.
