I bet the interior would cost £1500 in leather with headlining etc.

Then there's wiring, lights all sorts you haven't thought of.

The easiest way would be to start with a doner car and refurb everything better than new.

It also sorts out the registration issue

nope, as there are so many variations you could use. 20-70k should cover it.

what were David Brown saying?

Save yourself the hassle if you've got £50K David Brown will do the job for you

Hmmm, perhaps a bit expensive then. I'll just buy a new shell for my car then. Labour for welding etc is just not worth it. A nice shiny new shell with no bodge jobs, rust or filler will work for me. The rest of my cars been refurbed anyway.

The problem is the fact that the build quality of the Heritage shell is not too good. At least the ones I've seen have been quite poor.

Really? For the price I'd have thought they'd be
'Almost' perfect, but obviously I realise the tooling is old.

I was trying to work that out the other day in regards to just the shell

£7700 for new BMH shell

Around £6000 if you constructed a shell from new panels - probably not worth it given the time and jigging work but would be fun!

Better off just to buy a really great condition mini for £5-7k.

The problem is guaranteeing that it's great. There are some horrors out there going for ridiculous money.

A keen eye can spot one.

Buying an already decent looking one after checking it as thoroughly as possible before stripping and dipping it then having professional minor repairs carried out before re dipping it and coating it inside and out including all box sections with an antitrust treatment would be the most cost effective way of building a perfect mini, it would also be registered already and come with all the little bits and pieces that build up the cost even if you were going with mostly new parts.

Still bloody expensive though.

That's what clasic cars are all about. It would be even more expensive if you decided on, say, a Ford Cortina GT Mk.1 or an Escort Mk.1 or Mk.2.

Certainly still expensive but cheaper than a new unregistered shell which would still need to be dipped and E-coated to last as long before you were level pegging with a normal mini.

Nowt to do with the tooling, the welding is shocking and the panels are thrown on most of the time. I heard recently one lad buying one and found out it was way off being square. BMC openly admit they don't build shells for road cars, they're for racing.

Just curious. How did Wood and Pickett get around IVA, which a standard Mini will fail miserably, or Type Approval to current standards, which it would also fail miserably? Were they only for export to relatively unsophisticated countries?

If there is a legal work-around, I am sure that we would like to know.
