same reason land rover could justify £45k for a defender, if the demand is there they can charge what they like!

Low volume, high human tasking (= high man-hours) and expensive low volume parts.

A company like that will need to see over £75 per hour for labour if they are to stay in business.

We are used to buying high-volume cars, like the Mini was when in production ad that equals lower prices.

Hand built stuff is always expensive. Those cars are virtually bespoke

W&P apparently bought up some major assemblies from the end of production, you'd have to pay a bit a more than they did for individual parts. Also pretty sure they IVA'd their Margraves, perfectly doable as the last Minis had to meet the same basic C & U regs. You can also use a refurbished engine block and possibly some other reconditioned bits and still get a new registration. Heritage have us by the spherical objects as they have a monopoly on replacement bodyshells as original manufacturer" if you want to keep your V5 and avoid IVA.

You can call your car a Mini, you just can't make one to sell as a Mini, without BMW's blessing.

Interesting little musings. I think the idea of buying a decent Mini, stripping and refurbing the shell, subframes and running gear would be the best way to have a Mini, exactly as you want it and able to last for many many years, Oh wait.... isnt that what we call a restoration?

Classic cars are seriously strong money these days. I despair every time I look through classified ads or ebay or car and classic at the prices people believe their cars are worth, and the prices people are obviously prepared to pay.
