I parked my large German RWD daily and used a diesel corsa whilst the snow was here, no problems going in and out of work (have to as I'm involved with the winter maintenance equipment) people getting stuck is more to do with the 'dumbing down' of modern cars with too much tech and people's lack of planning, I know someone with a Tesla and he said that was brilliant in the snow

At last, snow tyres for 10" wheels again. Just a shame about the price.

OK for an 'original rally' show-car, but at that price not really on for real rallying.

Each forest rally would see them well-worn and would make them non-viable.

Colway and Max-Sport used to do a great 10" forest tyre, but there was insufficient demand. The Colways were copies of the Michelin Nora pattern and were also good on dry roads.

Many years ago, winter 1986 I think it was, I took my then girlfriend out for the evening to a pub out in the sticks. Big shock when we emerged from the pub very late, to several inches of snow. As I had consumed a few pints of the hostelries finest ale I decided to take the single track country lanes home. We were in my 1966 Mini Countryman and with plenty of momentum were going along great, I had recently fitted a set of Dunlop rally supers 165x10 on 4.5J s reverse rims, I knew the lane well and was aware of a ford crossing which is usually quite shallow. That night the ford appeared quite deep so I made the mistake of stopping to inspect it, when I got back in the car it had sunk in the snow and was not going anywhere. We had to abandon and start walking the remaining 4 miles home.

We had luck though as someone out playing in the snow in their Suzuki SJ spotted us and offered a lift, on explaining our circumstances we went back to the Mini for a tow recovery.

Classic Minis are good fun in snow and momentum is all you need, old Minis had little value thirty years ago and could be enjoyed without worry.

I still have this car and the same girlfriend although it would be difficult to persuade her to travel in it now.

The old Dunlop SP3 in 145 x 10 size was pretty good on mixed surfaces and snow. The same goes for the old Goodyear G800. Originally the Dunlop Weathermaster was a cross-ply tyre, but it was developed into an excellent radial tyre.

Both were open-pattern road tyres and were used extensively for rallying in the '60's.

There is no equivalent now and road tyres are, in the main, close pattern low profile wide things.
