Just suddenly thought it was about time I started a topic and showed you people what Milo started out as and what has happened to him as the year has passed lol.

Well Milo started life as a 1986 mini Mayfair. He was being sold by a friend at my mums work and he only wanted £500 for it. 32k miles on the clock, not bad condition, needs a-panels doing, possibly sills and he chucked in some Lucas spot lamps and the Mountey steering wheel. Unfortunately the guys step-daughter had decided she was going to paint flames on the car and as a result some black flames were painted on the bonnet!

First things I did to the car when it got home was full oil change, new set of points, condenser, spark plugs, HT leads, and a set of bonnet pins were added as well as the comforts of the drop column and seat brackets.

I then put on the Aston cap, and full RC40 exhaust kit from Mini Spares at MITP2005 for all of £85!

MkII lights and a reverse lamp was then fitted.

I then managed to find some Cibie Oscars on Ebay for £40 including P+P as well as getting some brand new Wipac lamps for £12 at the Malvern winter show. These went on the 2up2down brackets I bought.

Then I finally decided what paint job I was going for. Targa red, with OEW roof and Black bonnet and tops of the wings, an old works look. I sanded down the front panels and a spare bonnet I salvaged from a scrappy and sprayed them using Targa red and Satin black.

I then bought a 6point roll cage from a mate for £80. Was a pain in the Glass to get in the back but once it was in just gave it that “Race” look.

The wheels were next on my shopping list, a trip down to Bristol and 6 Hillman imp steelies were mine.
Now a few people have asked why the steelies?
Basically, it gives it that works look but Hillman imp wheels are deeper dished (see second pic).

I then managed to get some “Corbeau Forza Sport2000’s” off Ebay with sub frames (which need adapting as they sit VERY high”).

Harness’s should be here any day and I’m looking at dash’s at the mo along with some black grp2 arches with the chrome trim. Then in November i should be getting a 1310 engine with grey clutch kit and recond gbox with Jack Knight straight cut drops in :D

Well that’s it for now, I shall keep you updated and I’m thinking of doing the sills, doors (as they are knakered, see pic) and a-panels soon along with a total re-spray (same colours, but with an OEW roof).

Picture of gap between skin and frame on drivers door!!!

Mind you it has made it to the Nurburgring and back!! On one tank of fuel!!!!!!!

Right, thougt it was abuot time to update this as things have happend since my last post.

As some of you know my head gaskit blew the other day. It has now been fixed and instead of thew head gaskit i think the thermostat was stuck closed causing the eninge overheat, anyway all fixed now.

The project has seen some rethinking over the past few months.

Instead of opting with daves (might_mini's) 1310 engine and box, i savede the pennies and am planning a monster of an engine!!

a 998 yes, but it will have 100horses

Now i hear you cry "ah easy, turbo it"! Heres the catch, it will NOT have forced induction!!

Im unsure on what head to use. It will be a longman head but im unsure wether to go for the 998 head. Or should i go with te 1275 and leave the tappets loose? loosing performance??

I think the 998 would be better, but we shall see.

I will use a fancy cam and crank (TOP SECRET at the moment)

Gearbox wont be aything super-fancy to start with but will eventually turn into a sc (possibly close ratio) box.

Anyway thats it for now.

sounds good but i would use a 1275 head as it has much bigger valves, unless you are going 8 port or something

1275 head and pocket the block, then set the tappets properly!!! - 1275 much better flow for next to nothing - if its good enuf for the race boys, its good enough for me

Nice Mini You Have There Pie, There's A Part Of Me That Likes The Old Tatty Look (If You Don't Mind Me Saying So) The Reason Being Is That If You Do Fit A Supercharger To It, People Who Think They Can Burn You Off Will Have A Nice Slice Of Humble Forum Pie Slapped In Their Face...
Love It!!!!
