Hi,
There does appear to be a lot of soot in there. Can you unbolt the cat and take a picture of the engine side?
Is my memory correct, you've already changed the lambda sensor?
Cheers

Without data logs we don’t see full picture. Emission test should only be done when oil temperature above 80c and engine coolant temperature should be in the 90’s at least.
Have you smoke tested the entire exhaust system?........

Hi Sprocket,
The engine was hot, it was done after a run, the fan was kicking in, it was very hot.
I've not yet changed the cat because I don't want to ruin it because the engine is running rich.
I am in the middle of making a smoke machine. I work for a company that sells smoke machines for burglary deterent, i have some liquid here and will be using it to pump smoke up the pipe.
I might take the head off and lap the valves in. The manifolds are off, will be quite easy to do.
I have just ordered a leakdown tester.
I don't think the ROVER T4 does data logging, only real time logging, but I might be wrong, will look and see.

I think the engine is breathing very heavily. The top of the pistons are oily. Like what's in the inlet manifold.
The cylinder bores are shiny too.

Oil control rings not fully sealing?
Sounds like the bores need to be checked, hopefully they're ok and just a quick hone will do.

Yeah, I think the block has seen better days.
I've received my leak back tester so will put it all back together this weekend and see how bad it's leaking down the bores.

So, it's leaking into the crankcase, I can hear it hissing away :-(
I have a new cat coming from minispares. I will leave the engine breathing off the inlet manifold and get a retest.
I always planned to get a rebore so I'm not worried, just would like to get the emissions sorted before I finish the restoration.

Hi,
There's no harm in giving it ago, but keep mine mind it may still burn enough oil to screw up the test results...
I'm surprised that it's on +0.20 already for what's a relatively new engine in Mini terms.
Cheers

I have no history of the engine, but if the rebore was done badly, which i think it was, seeing as the cylinder walls are shinny, then it will leak.
I thought about honing the walls with the pistons in

Hi,
Shiny bores are due to over-fuelling in my experience.
Maybe it was rebored but no one took care of the root cause?
Cheers
