a pictureless update im afraid, i will have to get some tomorrow.

Today i went down the workshop and did some welding that ive been putting off for a few days.. There was a hole in the wishbone. I would have replaced it but even with a breaker bar it wasnt coming undone easily and i was more worried i could snap the bolt and ruin the subframe in some way.

Now both driveshafts are in, the hubs and Gaz shocks are on too. I ended up using the rover 400 brakes so theyre vented as standard and the calipers are larger than the Gti units. Win!! I made a little more adjustments for the gear selector, which now works perfectly. The selector comes though the bulkhead and mounts to the top of the Exhaust tunnel. With the selector out the way i aim to get the exhaust right in the tunnel so theres nothing to really hit whilst messing around on rough terrain etc.

Im currently (12:45am) sorting the ford edis wiring out as i type this. Soldering the loom and heatsrinking the joins. I want to start on the wiring of the ECU so that i can get it up and running in the next week. That means i can get to work on a base map and stop being worried that i wont have time to map it before germini.

My first job tomorrow will be mounting the EDIS triggerwheel and VR sensor to the crank. Ive got a rough idea how im going to do this.. but we'll take it as it comes...

On a lighter note, i nearly bought a 50hp nitrous kit.. but realised that shít is for whimps and straightline pimps..

Im beggining to wonder if 150hp is really going to be enough.... :)

Looking really good Dave. I've seen a few MS kits built up now and they seem so simple. I think when I finally go to 16V I'll be running the same system on the Vauxhall engine.

As for 150bhp being enough, I think it more than likely will be. At least for a year anyway! The thing about the bigger lumps is not so much the power but the torque. When there's that much in a Mini the power figure doesn't matter quite so much. I'm starting to get a bit bored of the C16SE with around 105bhp and 110lb/ft but it doesn't take much to release a few more ponies! I don't know what torque yours will be making but in a light van it'll just be silly. I for one can't wait to see it!

Today was a good day...

I went down the workshop to start fitting in the loom. Although i had a few visitors come round i made some nice progress before i had to come home.

No bodging here! All solder and heat shrink :(

Here are a couple snaps of previous work done...

Here is what i like to call the "live wire loom"... basically its just the circuit for feeding the required amount of power to each item that needs 12v. For instance the Megasquirt only needs 2Amps, the Fuel pump needs 10Amps, the injectors and O2 only need 5Amps and the EDIS 20Amps
I divided them up into 3 pairs..

Megasquirt and EDIS

Injectors and O2 Sensor

Fuelpump and Cooling

All fused individually as you'd usually see in cars.

The engine wiring was pretty simple once it was laid out. It was just a case of Soldering and heatshrinking each join.

First boot of MS2 was with the "bootloader" jumper on. This way i am able to upload the latest firmware to the ECU. THis took approximatly 10seconds to update.

Unfortunatly, I cannot connect to the ECU to map anything as yet. There is a software issue with one of the .INI files linked to the software. I have to edit it to make it expect the right firmware version from the ECU.
