I'm jealous ... I did a week kayaking around the Desolation Sound area a couple of years ago, you live in a great part of the world!

Hi there is free diagnostic software available:http://www.theminifo...-reader/page-11
as well google for mems-diag and mems-gauge. All you need is a 5V usb-ttl converter and the conection to your car.
You may diagnose if your map sensor , and temperature sensor work as well as if your IAC is working and a lot of other things.

Few garages would be able to fix any car with an ECU without having at least a basic diagnostic reader.
Replacing the Vac Pipes and the Stepper MIGHT fix your problems, but maybe not. That could be more money down the shute. A Sykes Pickavant ACR4 (there's one or two others) could be a good investment if you want to keep the car for a while.
And Vac Pipes changes, sensor changes and stepper changes are very DIYable.

@Wiggy
Hi what is a Pickavant ACR4 able to do more than free software?
Even the mems-diag can do logs. ( yes it is a bit tricky to export it but it is possible).
Without a logfile you have to decide immediately where or what the fault is.( If you are a professional working in a garage with a lot of expierence it is ok)
with a log file you may diagnose later and ask other people who are faniliar with that car and its faults.
Or do you sell them?

I've no idea. I don't have an SPi, I have an MPi. And the free software doesn't work with MPi. So I can only comment on what I've used.

Hi Turch09,
can you do do it yourself work? Do you have laptop, tools to work on the car? Familiar with welding jobs, do you have a voltmeter and are familiar with it?
Have a look to your TBI unit. Have somebody switch on and off the ignition. There should be a noise from the stepper motor and the butterfly should move slightly. If not take the tbi apart and have a look to the stepper motor.TPS should regulate between 0,5 and 5 Volt.
By the way, unplugging TPS will not hurt engine, engine will run in limp mode and run very lousy with a high fuel consumtion. In worst case your catalytic converter will die!

If you have the MPI diagnostics plug then you could get one of these.

I have one and have compared it to a T4 that I now have and the readings are identical.
