The black wire is to be connected to the earth wire which lurks under the dash area, the green one from the blower motor goes to the switch, and the other terminal on the switch must be fed from a green/brown live which comes from the ignition switch via the fuse box.
Get yourself a wiring diagram - plenty on this forum.

Originally the black wire is as above, the wire from the heater motor to heater switch is green/yellow and the power wire comes from the fused live to the wiper switch and is light green/orange.
It is in the Haynes manual in the wiring diagrams.
The opening closest to the clutch pedal is for the fresh air intake hose which connects to the air distribution box in the right hand wheel arch.

Noted, and I have a Haynes manual. I just went through the wiring schematic and noted the major components.

Does this ductwork look familiar. Awfully cramped quarters to route ductwork to the front wheel well from the blower box.
That goes on the under the wing behind the wheel. the small holes goes to the dash vents in the corners of the dash, the one with the studs attaches to the inner wing and the big hole goes to the big hole in the front of the inner wing

The heater switch makes and breaks the circuit between the battery and the heater motor so it makes no difference which way round the wires are connected to it.
