The proper cable has a plastic ferrule that clicks into place on the abutment. Seems to ensure the cable goes onto the throttle at the right angle. No doubt you could knock something equivalent up.

Ya I had that but was running into issue constantly so I altered for the temp solution and it works well but I can see issues down the road - just a matter of time.  So based on the feedback going to re think this and not set myself up for a head ache on the road..   Thx again Trissy..

croc7,

I am not using correct throttle cable and likely never will.  This is a frankenmini and could give a hoot about authenticity as looking to race this thing on the circuit and looking for the biggest bang for the buck.

That being said, we purposely drilled new holes for the accelerator cable as a temp solution.

I didn't mention the use of the wrong throttle cable to point out a lack of authenticity.  Installation of the additional throttle return spring was to help with a sticking throttle, right? The throttle cable designed for use on the HIF44 works perfectly to do just that.

No offence meant Croc and did not want to come off as being short - so accept my apologies for that as having read my response I can see your point.  I am going to rethink this, even if a frankenmini, could be setting myself up for a headache.

thx again for taking time to respond..

You’re welcome. Give the HIF44 cable a try, I think you will like it. Another place where the cable can bind is where it fits into the firewall. I always open up the hole in the ferrule a bit.

Ok, so, 100% the dashpot oil as pushed hard last night and had her out for hours of driving all up the rev range and absolutely no issues.

I adjusted the mixture and have the needle sitting at a depth of 0.140 and she runs great!

Now I will do as I did with the dual hs2's and continue on with happy driving.

Question, this rolling road thing you guys keep referring to, if I am happy with the way she runs, no backfire, stalling, sticky peddle etc, can someone explain the benefits of going and getting a rolling test done? Assuming I can find one in Toronto ???

I'm sure people will have differing opinions about this. Last time I went, engine was running just fine. The operator drove it for a while on the rolling road up and down the gears. Then did a power run to about 5500 rpm. He was pretty happy with it anyway but said he could eek another few bhp out of it by fine tuning the carb needle and timing etc.

We decided not to. But that was mostly because the exhaust fell off and the rocker cover gasket blew!!!

I have just clocked you are in Canada. What is the weather like? I went there one June and it was snowing when I disembarked. I was wondering if you might be suffering carb icing?

Good luck getting to the bottom of the problem.

I'm all sorted finally!! Was a few things.

I had the manifold nuts really tight but there was a leak. I didn't have that fat penny washers in which seem to help spread the load and make a better seal.

The hif return spring was the wrong way around! Now returns with much more springyness.

Back to the old needle BFY.

Now runs really well. Took it to Mini Motorsport Centre to sort out and is running lovelly. Seems much more low down torque with the new manifolds and carb.

Hey Andy

Sorry for the delay in responding as was out of town. No carb icing issues that although we had a cool May/June that was the least of my problems but sorted it out

At the end of the day, if you can friggin believe it, the arch on the cable I had too high so, the hood on my mini would compress it down and surprise, it would stick!!!!

Anyways, after admitting to this error in my install of the cable I simply tied it off lower down, dropped in my BFY needle, the 20/50 dashpot oil, viola, works perfectly!!

Lesson learned only part is look for the simple things first - then go on to the big stuff.
