Hello People,

I'm about to order a set of GB 6x10" wheels but am completely torn as to whether to get Yokohama A008 or A032 tyres, I've done a search and the general opinion is that there is a huge difference in grip betwixt the two, but, I wonder if the A008 would be better for my needs, my Cooper SPi is a sunny day toy, probably not even a thousand miles per year and certainly never in the wet so wear rates aren't really an issue, but what might be is the potential for flat spots from standing, I'd be interested in hearing people's opinions on which to get and whether you've experienced flat spots more with a particular tyre. Thanks.

As far as I know you can only get A032 in an R compound now which broadly speaking will have more grip but maybe not be as good in the cold as the A008.
So the A032R should offer more grip on sunny drives but will wear out sooner although not really an issue with your low mileage.

If the car’s kept indoors at a fairly steady temperature the tyres should be ok. It takes a long time for flats spots to form but if you’re really worried there are ‘Tyre Savers’ which are basically wheel ramps with a curve for the tyre to sit in and further protect them.

Or if the car doesn’t need to be moved around between drives you could just take the wheels off and sit them in a cool dry cupboard away from sunlight for even better protection.

I have only ever had 032r. The are sketchy in the slight damp or cold and you can feel then warm up and as you drive.
Flat spots no not really! If you are worried every month or so roll it in and out but I certainly haven't. Or pop it on axle stands. The only time I had a problem was when I parked it with the tyres hot in the garage and they stuck to the floor and pulled the paint up.
From what you describe definitely 032r.

I had exactly this....
After a spirited drive in the summer, parked it up in the garage and they had stuck to the floor....

Our racer regularly sticks to the trailer ramps after a dry race. We use AO32r’S which wear very little considering the abuse they get. Should make a good dry weather road tyre.

heard from a few friends - one races his 1380 in hill climbs etc, other just a normal 1275, that the a032rs are the best choice. They both say that they work really well in the rain, far better than any other tires around.

I just ordered a set of them this blackfriday as i currently use falken f07es and theyre abismal... in dray and wet my 998 can almost freely spin a wheel pulling out of a turn and the though of ending up in an accident or my girlfriend calling me in tears cus she skid into someone is not worth the slight premium of some proper tires. Should be arriving today! cant wait for next season to get them going.

Thinking of A032r myself, how did they turn out?

i love them. havnt got them to slip once. As a fairly simpl,e and straight forward comparison... there is a round about near the autobahn where i live. My old falken f07e would begin squeeking and lose grip around 40km/h. i did 65 on the yokos yesterday and only once did it lose grip going over a slight bump. im shocked... had them out in the wet and raining too. held perfectly. but they are new.... need to see if they go hard after a year or two

In my experience they wear the same rate, but a008's have nearly twice as much tread to start of with. I prefer 032's, but cant justify getting a set every other month aha

Something to think about Midas and with my current use of maybe 1000 klm per year - summer and fall only - I am hoping can have some fun - regardless I bought some deep dish ultra lites and sold my old revolutions and @3k old 008's for $650 just this week

Just have to be careful around potholes more so with the ultra lites

I have sets of both. A032 is my normal road tyre and ironically use the 'lesser' A008 tyre for auotosolos/Autotests as thats what the regs allow.

A032 is a great tyre imo that is very versatile and long lasting. On the same set I have given it a beating around Goodwood circult and also taken them on a wintery 12 car rally, full of mud, leaves and broken ground.
