That said I've just checked the oil and have some mayo inside the filler cap. No water in oil but time will tell.. PLEASE not yet another head gasket change, even after fitting replacement head !?
I'm also doing a measured noise / vibration reduction experiment which sprang from a discussion elsewhere on TMF, link to this below

Work has been held up due to our house being partially flooded by a leaky central heating installation. Oh well got new carpets paid for by the installers 🙂
Hope you are all well and looking forward to Xmas and a brighter 2021

The 850 has thick mayo inside the rocker cover after 3000 miles..tired of constant head gasket changes.
I unearthed a cheap Maestro unit on ebay. Plans for this discussed on TMF
https://www.theminif...t/#entry3681245
So mulling over the prospect of a 1275 with a 3.7 fd nipping around our local A and mountain B roads. I very much doubt it will be anywhere near as smooth as the 850 though.
Apart from that the suspension needs to be dialed in and paint refresh in the spring retaining the existing patina
Photos will be up after enough changes have been made
Hope your own projects are going well in lockdown?

Mayo inside the rocker cover can be just the cold weather - I changed a head gasket in a panic after I found it in mine - but there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the original gasket when I took it off. As long as the oil is OK and coolant not going down you may find it goes in warmer weather.

The coolant is going down but very slowly, fingers crossed that this engine will last a little longer

Sun shining, oil pressure and temperature perfect. Park her up to grab a coffee and loads of people are gawking at the car. Jen then starts crying into her drink and says she can't sell the Mini.
Knew this would happen 🙄

She ran like a dream going to see the paint guys, the 850 is great fun and she sounds just right.
In other news I ended up trading my MR2 for an mgb GT in black with wire wheels, probably a rash decision as initially there's an overheating problem with the b. At least the dealer I bought it from is footing the cost of any repairs to make sure she's good. Suits my current old git style of driving naaargghh!

Thanks Steve I've certainly enjoyed the driving experience apart from the severe overheating, bought from a guy who had it sitting in dry storage for six months and I believe it had very little use in the few years prior.Enjoy the MGB,as a long time owner of two of them(a GT and a roadster)overheating is not usually a problem.Rust,if you think Minis rust and are expensive to repair then think seriously about treatment for your new toy. After 37 years I still love mine,Steve..
When he delivered it temp was on the three quarter mark then on my first fifteen mile trip it suddenly got really hot and by the time I pulled in it was firmly in the red.
Bottom rad hose absolutely chock full of sludge so flushed the system through which improved things but still getting bubbling at the end of even a short run. Compression test have readings of between 160 and 125 so I reckon the head gasket has blown.
Anyway the seller has agreed to foot the repair bill.
As far as rust goes she'll be straight up in the air and I'll be checking absolutely everywhere then treating with bilt hamber products.
Really hope it turns out to be a good car otherwise I'll be asking to reverse the deal. The MR2 I part exchanged was so reliable
