Thanks guys.
I just hope my post shows how vulnerable we all are to anyone reading who still can't grasp the importance of social distancing and see it as some kind of inconvenience.
So many people are dying, health care us under more strain than it can manage and peoples futures are in serious jepordey and still There are people trying to decide if it's safe to take the kids on holiday and turning to the PM for instructions....

Hope you have a speedy recovery mate.

As someone who unfortunately has symptoms and has had to go into self isolation, let me tell you that this is about as scary as it gets.

We have been extraordinarily carefully since the virus landed in the UK and yet it appears I still managed to contract it somehow.

I do not know for certain it is covid19 as I have been told I will not be tested unless I am admitted to hospital. I can only be admitted if I cannot manage my symptoms..

My symptoms match and yes I have felt these things before with the flu but this time, it's different, every single symptom is about as bad as you can imagine.

People carrying on as normal believing they are invulnerable are crazy. They may not suffer from this virus if they contract it but they can very easily pass it about and potentially kill off many people.

Unfortunately there are always going to be idiots and I am not surprised about any thing I read telling us of how people are acting in a selfish way but the sooner people realise that this is very serious and stay at home, the better.

I'm not going to get into a rant about this. Everyone knows what I would say anyway as we feel the same but for anyone reading this thinking they can carry on for a bit longer should seriously reconsider if not for themselves but for others you are in contact with.

My partner has autoimmune issues and she is now at risk assuming that it is covid19 that I have so we are doing all we can to separate ourselves within our 3 bed bungalow. Yes it's lonely and boring and hard and scary but it's better than being dead

Best of luck with it Ben!  We can only hope all the bloody eejits get it into their thick heads that they MUST stay away from everyone, nobody is immune to this.

Just been talking to my brother-in-law (who works at Currys the electrical retailer) Currys across the country have orders for 800 of one model of chest freezers, let alone all the other makes and models!  Complete and utter madness!!!

Ben, very best wishes to you and your partner, it must be incredibly stressful for you both.

My wife has immunodeficiency and we're staying home, except when I have to take her to hospital for her essential ms medical infusion (cannot be administered at home)

Even then we're not leaving our van en route.

Can't be too careful everyone please stay safe

I'm really sorry to hear this, hope you get well soon and get back to those fantastic thread updates that we all love!

It is amazing how many people are still going out, I went to Tesco's earlier because I have a prescription to pickup and they are automatically sent there, people were still wondering around cluelessly looking at stuff like nothing was going on, not getting food shopping just looking at nice to have items like it was a day trip out.

Fair play to tesco through they had facitlity to clean handles on baskets and trolleys and have altered the entrance so you go in one side and out the other and marked up the checkouts to indicate where people should stay apart.  They have made a real effort for people who can't do on-line shopping (either because they don't have the facitlities or they can't get a delivery slot).

I wish that people would stop panic buying stuff, a lot of the shelves were stripped when I went in.  I have three types of tablets that I take and one lot I only have a couple of days left of and the other two I have at least a month.

I only ordered the one I need now as other people might need the others and its better that I leave them for those whose need is more urgent, especially as some of the tablets are used to treat heart conditions (not what I take them for), if everyone thought like this there would be plenty to go around but a lot of people are all me me me.

Fortunatly i'm luckier than a lot of people as I can work from home and have been doing so since a week last monday, others are not so lucky and the government really need to sort something out for the self employed and people on zero hours contracts to make sure that they arn't forced to work to put food on the table (again i'm lucky as i'm PAYE).

Hope you soon recover, Ben. Also keep your partner as safe as you can.

I know how worrying this is because my wife has a serious and chronic lung problem.

The biggest problem now looks like getting food without going out, which I absolutely refuse to do. The only time I have been out in the past week was very late at night to an outdoor ATM at Morrisons petrol station.

My daughter lives about 50 miles away and my son 70 miles, but if necessary I'll have to enlist their help.

There really are some complete idiots out there. The shortages are caused by this stupid panic buying which was entirely unnecessary in the first place.

I ordered 20 surgical masks on-line today and delivery is the end of April. No rush though, as I don't think we'll be needing them until early August at the earliest.

By then I should have done all the body restoration of my Grandson's Mini which requires a lot of new panels. Just hope M-Machine and Mini Spares can still deliver.

Take care, get well and keep safe. Best wishes to you and yours.

Peter

Our "stable genius" president is aiming to go back to "normalcy" by Easter in order to save the economy because "the cure should not be worse than the illness". Even one of his supporters from Texas said the he and older people like him should be willing to "sacrifice themselves" and go out and spend money to save the economy.  The medical community is completely against such an idea, since we have not seen the worst yet and that would just increase the spread of the virus. Apparently these geniuses have not noticed that in some cases like in Italy, the virus is attacking and killing young people too. All of it is because it is a presidential election year. Good economy = votes.

I wasnt overly concerned at first due to low numbers of cases in the local area.

Some staff still don't want to work from home and the guidance from the government stating that employees should be encouraged to work from home is in direct conflict with their own rules regarding only going into work if its absolutely essential to do your job.

We need to stay rational and follow the science. 1 person infected with covid-19 is estimated to lead to the infections of 40-59k people. With a .1% death rate, if any of us are infected we could be responsible for the deaths of 40-59 people. That's if the death rate isn't higher! People's lives are literally in our hands.

Anyone who has the opportunity to work from home and doesn't take it is extremely selfish as far as I'm concerned and this shouldn't be a choice. The government and other government organisations really need to get a grip and start telling people; we can't afford to mess around if we are serious about protecting life and the NHS which is already under severe pressure and We're only at the beginning!

I'm still working but I'm on my own in my workshop surrounded by fields up a 1/2 mile track, but I hope they soon say no body is to go out or else.... so we are clear I know it will hurt but sooner this is gone the better for all rather than it going on and on and on....
Take care all

Yeah, theres still a lot of people out there that cant work at home that basically HAVE to go to work, I was told if I dont go in i dont get paid... fortunatly I am pretty isolated at work.

Basically had a stand up row with my boss at work yesterday over me not being a Key worker.... the government then ammended their edict, making me look a right pillock....

It does feel like the lockdown hasn't changed much as if you look at what's allowed to stay open. My girlfriend who works making fibre optic cables are still at work. She's off as she is works 2 days a week. All bar restaurants and clothes shops it seems pretty normal out there. Plus there's the usual idiots who are out for the sake of rebellion. The government definitely needs to ramp up the closures and punishments but I think they are scared or don't think they can make it happen.

It's certainly quietening down out there.

The government doesn't want to eradicate the virus though so I think they're just trying to find the right balance to keep it spreading at a slow pace whilst keeping the most at risk as safe as possible.

It should be fairly clear that some sort of lock down is going to be in place for some time, unless they think people are miraculously going to change a habit of a lifetime and start properly washing their hands!

I've not been on the forums for a while, unfotunately I was battling cancer last year and the Chemo also wiped me out.  Thankfully I'm much better, I don't have to have any more Chemo (thank *%£!) but just as my life starts returning to normal this happens!

Don't get me wrong, this isn't woe me or anything, it's just one of those unfortunate things that can happen to any of us.  I'm in self isolation and so is the misses.  I can work from home (joy) but hopefully will get some time to get the new dash in the Mini and finish the rewiring of it (as when I pulled out I was shocked (pardon the pun) at the highly dangerous state of it) so every cloud n all that!

One thing I must say is that the NHS were absolutely fantastic throughout everything I went through, they certainly do not get enough praise (or money) for what they do for all of us.  I really feel for the workers at the moment and cannot imagine what they are having to deal with right now.

I hope everyone stays safe and we can all have fun with our Minis in the not too distant future!.

Take care everyone!

It’s certainly an uncertain time.

I’m a broadband engineer and up until yesterday we were being sent to any old job. Thankfully we’ve all raised enough hell for them to review this and change it to essential loss of service visits only.

In spite of all this people are still lying about having symptoms when calling in and obviously so in their own little bubble without a care for anyone else. Being asthmatic and classed as vulnerable I’m crapping myself about what I should do.i think a lot of people are in a similar situation to me.

Stay safe everyone
