The caps in my TF's were these (I bought the wheels new)
They clipped in from the outside and I'd loose them occasionally if I hit a pot hole

Raceways were one of the only links I could find that still stocked something but until I popped one out I did not have accurate measurements to go off. I found some older ones on their site which are unavailable so they may well be the ones you refer to Nick. I have 4 which need replacing, 3 are corroded and the front has gone, one is entirely missing but it doesn't look like someone has drilled through it (I hope...). For the price it makes sense to change all of them though.

Can you see the closed end 3/8 nuts listed on their site, I can only find the open ended?

Minispares list http://www.minispare...px|Back to shop which seem right otherwise (if you didnt want open)?

Smurfomatic, do you know what the original caps should look like at all? Is there any issue with the centre hole being larger in your view?

Also came across these on another forum  http://www.prestigew.../Imagewi510.asp but being USA, the import costs may make this prohibitive.

Also http://www.speedshack.co.uk/index.htm but would need to call them directly to see, I imagine there is a fair chance they may have something closer to the original but it depends how much of a concern the centre size diameter is.

This is the closed version of the wheel nut on raceways, don't think the Minispares ones will work as they need the "bulge" to fit in the larger hole:

https://www.raceways...y_wheel_Nut.htm

Never had any of the original caps, but I think the ones I used were either the 65mm or 66mm Minilite ones on Minispares:

Nothing like the originals but they fit!

Thank you for that, finding a photo was not so easy so that is very helpful! There are actually blanks on ebay, I am surprised!

Ah I entirely missed them somehow thanks, not sure how I feel about the larger hole really, I suppose it is only marginally less contact area at the opening but this is compensated at the bulge?

Are you planning to get some from Raceways and use them?

Mini spares do the large seat taper nuts, part number CN5

You could use the Rover style nut but then you may actually need to make the hole in the insert slightly larger:

I'm going to order a set and give them a try - at £2.50 per wheel stud for insert and new nut it won't cost a lot!

He's away from the office for the next week, so will let you know how it goes when they arrive

Fitted the inserts into the wheels today, all looking good.

I found an old 1/2" socket extension made a good punch to knock out the old inserts. I then used a washer wrapped in loom tape over the new inserts to prevent damaging them as they were knocked in.

As you can see I went with the "closed" wheel nuts. Can't rate raceways highly enough, even when Tim was "on holiday" he replied to emails, even gave me a call the day he got back to say he didn't have enough in stock, but it would all be sorted in a couple of days. Great service!

Excellent.
I'd get some spares while you can. Mine used to seem to 'wear out' pretty regularly and they'd crack where the nut seats in them. I used to have to replace them fairly frequently. Think I initially used standard nuts and later the chrome closed end round seat nuts.

That's great thanks for the update, did they all go in fine? I'm a tad cautious to remove ones that are in to replace if they are not broken, just through fear of the new insert being loose.

Definetly agree on the closed nuts.

All went in fine, the old ones came out okay after a few whacks of the hammer! Cleaned up theholes with a wire brush and the new ones fitted perfectly.
