The extension gives a slight increase in fuel in the float chamber because it’s straight sided, not “conical” down to a point where the jet tube is like the original cover.

I think I can see what you mean.  It provides (slightly) more volume in cross section where the jet tube end is.

However if you're going to the trouble of designing and making an extension, why not just make a new carb bottom with an optimised dimension (similar to Mini Manannán) rather than introduce an additional joint/gasket/seal, the need for longer screws and moving the bottom of the carb nearer to the hot exhaust?

Apologies Mini Manannán - I've dragged this off topic and away from your nice piece of ali fab!

Not at all Graeme, it's all interesting.  I noticed Swiftune were saying theirs is to eliminate fuel surge, I'm not sure how they work that out: https://swiftune.com...l-floats-2.html

They make more sense on H or HS type carbs as those control fuel level at the top but draw out from the bottom.

I can see it reducing starvation, but how it reduces fuel surge though, I’m not sure. I suppose it will allow the float bowl to act as more of a swirl pot.
