Hi all,

On 05/01/21, at 6.30pm, our Rover Mini Cooper was stolen from outside our home in East London.

The man who carried out the theft was caught on CCTV (please see link to YouTube clip of edited CCTV below).

In my opinion, he's a professional car thief, who may specialise in classic cars/Minis - he took about five minutes to start it.

The quality of the footage isn't HD, but you can see he's a middle-aged white male, with grey hair which looks like it's plaited down the back of his neck. He appears to have a penchant for designer clothes (ICON sweatshirt), and for the colour red (see his trainers, gloves and tool bag).

I think if you saw him nosing around your pride and joy, you'd be able to recognise him.

If you have a moment, please take a look at the video and share it among the wider Mini community:

Hopefully, that's the only time you'll ever see him.

Stay safe, and secure.

I'm sorry to hear this, the trouble is if they do catch him he will get a few months in a prison/holiday camp (if a clever lawyer of police incompetence doesn't get him off first).  Its just no deterrent.

He didn’t take long to unlock it!

He seemed pretty cool and confident.

I hope you get your Mini back in one piece and I hope this guy gets caught. I'd guess this isn't a one off for him, hopefully he'll come unstuck in a big way.

You know, in the olden days, they used to cut off the hand that stole the bread. Not a bad deterrent I think.

He was very quick - it was all over in five mins. However I should stress the video is edited as there was about a minute when he was off-camera, during which time he may well have been unlocking it.

Thank you for your comment. My guess and hope is that he will one day be caught. He took a big risk stealing our Mini. My main objective now is to get his image into the classic car world so he will be recognised.

You're no doubt right - my objective now is to get his image into the classic car world so he will be recognised.

So sorry this happened.

Did you have any extra security on the car? A disklok would at least slow him down. All minis are very vulnerable.

Thank you - no, I didn't have extra security (I have kicked myself for that many times). I had a previous Mini, standing exactly where that one was for four years without incident. My next one will be brimming with security.

Why are classic mini's vulnerable to theft moreso than other vehicles ?
