Hif44 Carb Positioning - Engine Mount Position

The cross member changed at the same time the engine moved forward to give it the clearance needed. This happened in ‘91 for all 1275cc cars.  I always (wrongly) call them injection frames.

 

The only other change after that was when the MPi frame with the front mounted rad came in in ‘96

 

Someford show there’s only been 4 rubber mounted front subframe designs:

’original’ engine position

engine moved forward

Mpi

Automatic

 

So Graeme, before I get this blasted and painted, will this one be OK in my 1982 Saloon, with a 1989 Metro 1275 engine?

It will fit fine. 
 

There might be a small issue getting clearance for the carb if it is a HIF type.  There are so many factors that affect that it is almost impossible to predict if you’ll have a problem until it is built and in. But if you do, an adjustable top steady to lean the engine forward slightly is an easy fix.
