Sorry for the lack of news on this one lately, ots been a lot of monotonus prep work and nothing really noteworthy so here are the highlights.

Boot and parcel shelf are now prepped

And here are some before shots of the engine bay prior to prep

And then after a clean up, de rust and some stopper over some visible pitting and weld joins, it's ready

The stopper still isn't rubbed down in those shots. I forgot to photograph that part.

After going back round the shell checking repairs, de rusting the roof gutters and repairing a dent in the roof, I put the last bit of stopper over the welds on the rear valance and this stage of the exterior prep is complete

Next step is primer.

Before the high build can go on, I want to use an isolator on any areas of paint that I'm unsure about. It's not practical to remove every last trace and I don't want any reactions so this is a very convenient solution.

In these photos, there is the isolator (green) and acid etch (brown) which I have applied to all bare metal areas to give a nice base for the high build.

And then 15 mins later, I applied 3 coats of highbuild primer to the exterior panel work, engine bay, parcel shelf and boot area.

Next step will be to pop the shell on the rotisserie so that I can prep the underside and inside of the shell.

Cheers

Ben

Will a brake servo be fitted? Otherwise it's missing a hole in the bulkhead for the bias valve divider to move over to from its current position. I noticed on mine after paint :-)

I'm actually not sure.

It's certainly not a late enough car to have a servo as standard.

A keen eye, it’s an 86 Mayfair so doesn’t have a servo fitted. 🙂

The car is looking amazing Ben! This is the first time it’s been one colour for a long time!

It's coming along really nicely.

Won't be long before it's all one colour but an actual colour!

I for one can't wait to see it.

Cheers

Ben

For the next step, the shell needs to go on the rotisserie.

And now I can start the prep on the underside

Lots of grease, wax and old underseal to remove.

It's a long a messy process but one side is almost done

I'm not aiming for beauty under here. I shall be concentrating on getting it well sealed up and protected.

It's been decided that I'll replace the battery cable channel due to rust and there being a section missing.

89J7xzc.jpg

And then I cleaned up the rest of the underside.

pjmfyTI.jpg

r9P3oHD.jpg

And now it's time to get the inside prepped

The plan in here is to focus on the parts that will be seen like like b posts, companion bins, crossmember etc.

Everything else that's covered by trim and carpet will receive only basic prep.

Cheers

Ben

In the GT?

Unfortunately not, I was picking up my disabled daughter who had a short break on the island for a week, so a 250 mile round trip with wheelchair luggage and 3 people, they wouldn't all fit in the GT :ohno:
