Evening,

A small but significant update this evening. I spent an hour putting in the passenger window with new seals and weather strip.

Instead of mastic, I used some draught strip which should do the job nicely.

Sadly, the first scratch also happened. I'm sure it won't be the last, but it's good to get it out of the way. I protected the lower edges with tape whilst fitting the window but not the window surround.

Thankfully, Ben provided me with a touch up pot which will come in handy.

Nice to see some progress with the refit.

Shame about the scratch but these things happen.

If you get any others that you can't successfully touch up, you can always drive it over when you are finished and I can sort them out. But hopefully that won't be necessary.

Cheers

Ben

Looking 👍. What make and size is the trailer? seems ideal although 6" longer wouldn't hurt.

The trailer is an ifor Williams flatbed with an 8x5' bed. I think its the LT85 model in the link below. If you to know exactly, I will ask the friend I borrowed it from.

Thanks, a 10' would be ideal for me.

I also have an Ifor Williams Trailer and its great quality, mine is considerably older than the one used to tow the mini and its still going really strong.

Had a productive afternoon on the mini today, its remarkable how much you can get through in the re-assembly stage. Although my minispares order for lots of trivial components, nuts, bolts, etc. is mounting up!

Finished the door lock mechanism, worked on the loom,  fuel tank, rear lights, battery cable, boot lock and hand brake.

I do have a question on the battery cable, I've tucked it into the carrier under the car, does this need folding over at all to retain the cable, or does it just sit in there once both ends are fixed in position?

Next up, thread this lot into the engine bay and start work on the brake system and pedal box.

Are you planning on keeping the clear lenses? I think it would look better with the standard lenses IMHO...

This is awesome. Can always count on Ben to do a good job.

Love the car port too :)

Couldn't agree more, those are not a good look imho.

Thanks for the comments  :proud:

I bought the lenses ages ago during lock down, having seen them on the car, they're not my favourite.

I'm going to keep them on there until the look is complete and make a decision then.

Great work Greg. Looking really good already.

As for the battery cable channel, the cable should be a tight fit in the channel and you will need to press it firmly in.

There shouldn't be any need to close up the channel in any way.

If the cable doesn't fit tightly, then you can remove it, close up the channel all the way along slightly and then push the cable tightly into it.

Keep up the good work.

Ben

Its been a little while since I posted but there's been plenty going on in the background, just getting carried away.

Although I don't have photo's, I have:

Fitted out the drivers door

Fitted the pedal box

Fitted both master cylinders and bled the brakes once, Ive fixed a couple of leaks and now need to bleed again

Fitted the wiring loom and started making sense of it

Fitted the ducting under the N/S wing, as well as the headlight and indicator on this side

Then today, the magic happened, and I reunited the engine and car.

And with remarkably little jiggling, it went in

Spot the rookie mistake though!

As it arrived today too, I fitted the seat for the 4" duct under the O/S wing and got that in place

I have a friend with me tomorrow helping out so I am hoping to get the majority of the engine connected (exhaust, gear linkage, cables, rad, hoses, tie rods, etc) leaving me to connect up the wring loom in the week.

Shouldn't be too long now and I can see if she starts!

Thanks for the comments.

I'm really pleased with the look, the engine is painted Old English White which is the same as the roof and bonnet stripes. I'm sure I'll regret painting it cream, but hopefully it will force me to keep it clean!

Another good day today, although I'm now held up on almost every job by waiting for bits and bobs from Mini Spares. Before I order though, I need to know which LCB Y piece suits my exhaust and manifold, they're 1.5" downpipes and a 1.75" exhaust. If anyone on here know which P/N is correct the I would be very grateful, if not I'll call them on Monday.

I do have one question, what is the correct routing for the battery cable through the engine bay?

F5HT0Ze.jpg

I've managed to loose the brake master cylinder clevis pin down the bulkhead cross member..... that 30 minutes of "fishing" I won't get back. Need to get myself a magnet on a stick. I'm not so worried about replacing it, I just don't want it to rattle if I leave it in there!
